The man looks out from where he lay,
Into the distance from whence came,
The horror that had caused
the forlorn look upon his twisted face.
The tears run down the cheek
Of the other, looking on from outside,
At the anguish reproduced
By the skill of the artist.
The hope of the soldier has gone
From his fearful face.
The hope of the onlooker fortified
By the skill of the artist.

- Comment from author about the poem: After Accidental Poet put up his poem 'Never dreamed I'd be a poet' we had a brief discussion about this and I said that I felt the same way and that it was a picture that I saw which made me write my first poem and he asked me to put it on here so here it is. Our daughter is an artist and she started experimenting with lino cuts, this was her first attempt and I saw it before it's completion after the first print with only one of the colours on it, I just burst into tears, I don't know why it moved me so much but it is the reason why I link all art into one sense of feeling, and it is th reason I started writing poetry.

I can see your daughter is a highly skilled artist by this superb lino cut. She must get it from her Dad who has produced yet another inspired piece of poetry.
Thank you so much Michael, she is my stepdaughter so I have put nothing into her skill. We get on extremely well and although I am not her father I am her Dad. Although I have always liked art in our talks she has brought my understanding to a much higher and better level.
Mutual inspiration I am sure.
A fine write G/F. You had inspired me to put 'skill and art' in a recent poem. But some of 'the arts' I find rather boring. I mean, 'arts' can mean more than poetry and painting, we know. Depends what takes our interest I suppose.
Thank you Orchi. You need to see into the art to understand it and open your mind as to what may be there.
Beautiful observational writing backed up by your real life explanation. Into my favourites.
Thank you so much da, much appreciated.
She may be an apple from another tree, but she came to rest underneath you. Two talents in one family is a treasure to share. Kudos to both you and daughter. ; )
Thank you so much AP you are most kind.
Love the explanation of how the poem was born and how you became a poet ... more important to be a Dad than just. Father ...good poem
Thank you wl, being her Dad is so wonderful.
beautiful art,touching poem
Thank you Ron, much appreciated.
The fear in the heart of so many today as they look upon the world we've created from their personal 'hidey-holes' ... so beautifully captured in this image! I can relate to your tearful reaction to it, Goldie. Beautiful!
Thank you Louis, any and all art can be so emotive.
Well written and expressed
Thank you Tony.

Marvelous.
Thanks mandm, so kind.
The lino cut is incredible, and so is your poem.
Thank you Fred, the incredible thing about it was that it was her first lino cut and my first poem.
Great poem and the art is fantastic. No wonder it made you cry. Very inspirational.
