Tune: Coe Fen
('How shall I sing that majesty')
John 14 v.13-21
**********
Whate'er you ask now in my name
It shall be done, the same
Said Jesus, so that Father be
Glorified in Son, see
And if we shall ask anything
He will do it, will bring
To us those things of God's good hand
To folk of every land
And Christ will pray the Father too
Send Comforter to you
That He may abide for ever
Remain, leave you never
Even the Spirit of truth he
Shall with you, in you be
He whom the world cannot receive
They see not, know, believe
Comfortless he will not us leave
Nor stay in sadness, grieve
For Christ shall come to us again
The Spirit's presence then
They that have His commands and keep
Them, they are e'er His sheep
And they are those who do Christ love
Inspired by grace above
They too be by the Father loved
He holds them, His encov'ed (encovenanted)
And Christ will love them, and will show
Himself to them, they know
Then of His presence, kindly blessed
In Him they find their rest
Come to our hearts now, holy dove
Spirit of truth and love

- Comment from author about the poem: A hymn-poem in 8686 8686 metre (Double Common Metre = DCM). A tricky tune maybe! A fairly old hymn, from second half of 17th Century.

We don't have to be silent as in 'dust (us!), keep silence', as in verse 1 of the hymn. We can sing and praise! Though I suppose the heavenly choir sounds far better than us.
Once again STEVE ~ Perfect Hymn in a perfect setting ~ I love churches with high ceilings ~ awsome acoustics. And once again a perfect Poem to lift our spirits on a Bank Holiday Monday ! Yours BRIAN
Thanks Brian. A 'dusty' hymn? At primary school, the headmaster would say 'Sing loud enough to dislodge some dust from the ceiling!'. Erm, spirits lifted (unusually?) by fine B/H weather too?!
Great write and video
Thanks Tony.
Welcome
Thank you for today's message from above.
Thanks M.
Good write once more Orchi. The first line says:
Whate'er you ask now in my same
Should it be;
Whate'er you ask now in my name
Yes thanks G/F - typo corrected now.
