Meadow Meanderings

orchidee

Tune: Christchurch [Steggall]

('Now is eternal life')

*******

Passing through meadows green

God's creation is seen

For He has it all made

In His beauties arrayed

Nature unspoiled by human blight

Viewed resplendent to our delight

Yet here, conservation

Inhibit species none

But do for them provide

They cannot be denied

For sharing earth's resources, this

Man and beast in peace co-exists

Weep sad, you willow trees

We espy clusters, these

Growing tall, shadowing

Shelter from rain, sun bring

They weep where man's greed and misuse

Have damaged lands with no excuse

Here too be birds resting

And their young do they bring

Within sanctuary there

With humans they do share

In pleasant joys by river's side

Taking life daily in their stride

'Tis all works marvellous

God does great things for us

Though Spring, Summer, and Fall

And Winter, He o'er all

We His sheep, He through pastures guides

His presence from us He not hides

Leaving our country lane

To turn to town again

Or river's ramble, stroll

Where'er we be, our soul

Is strengthened, supported by you

Lord, you us help and us renew

  • Comment from author about the poem: A hymn-poem in 666688 metre, inspired by some meadows of the same name as the hymn tune. I was singing the original, or humming it, while going through those meadows. Mind you, it was a large meadow. No-one within 50 feet of me at times, to hear me! heehee.

Based on a real meadow, with the name the same as the hymn tune.

Ahhhhhhhh STEVE ~ You have taken us to the Dreamy Spires in this one ! Christchurch Meadow ~ Oxford ~ Property of the College and a Triangular Meadow bounded by the College ~ Thames ~ Cherwell ~ a place to watch the Oxford Eight at practice by the Boathouse. My stamping Ground in Oxford is Balliol ~ we have conferences there and staying in the Rooms is a real Medieval Experiecne and dining at High Table is real Hogwarts. Thank GOD for Oxbridge maintaining the standards and always providing us with at least half the Conservative Cabinet ! David Cameron ~ First in PPE @ Brasenose College Oxford 1988 was succeeded by Theresa May (10 years his Senior !) 2:1 Honours degree in Geography (she does understand Europe !) at St Hugh\'s Ladies College Oxford. You don\'t have to go to Oxbridge to be PM of the UK but it does get you shortlisted ! I now live nearer Cambridge and often visit just to breath the Academic Air ~ my stamping ground is Emmanuel. I also love CHRISTCHURCH New Zealand ~ but that\'s another story for another day ! Thanks for sharing and stiring ~ Love your Ecological Hymn I have a Poem on Sustainability drafted for this very week ~ Yours BRIAN

Beautifully written, and a timely reminder that we should all appreciate and preserve what nature has given us, before it's too late. Nice write, Orchidee!
