summers heat cools
in an evening meadow
lit by a thousand tiny stars
down a dusty road
of tattooed memories
fireflies in a jar
running wild and free
in wilderness dark and still
taking a leap into uncertainty
leaving childhood for the world abstract
with so many jars to fill
blowing the dust off
all those young dreams
fresh cut hay drifts in
on the winds from afar
barefoot , tanned
serenaded by the crickets tune
fireflies fly free of the jar
split rail fences
of summertime dreams
an old outhouse, a shooting star
dogs running free
was it really as simple
as it seemed....
fireflies in a jar
