Tune: Thornbury
('Thy hand O God has guided')
(Hebrews 12 v.18-25)
*******
1. You have not come to Sinai
From which dread man would fly
Unless God bid him approach
Such mount without reproach
Burning with fire, blackness there
Darkness, tempest, none dare
Come to such place, save God them call
He awesome Lord of all
2. Sound of trumpet loud they heard
And trembled at the word
So terrible the sight made
Though Moses, he obeyed
And did exceeding fear and quake
For he made no mistake
That God atop the mount dwelt
They bowed before Him, knelt
3. But we are come to Zion
Mount and city where none
Be excluded, all welcome
May come through Christ the Son
The living God, His presence there
We may partake and share
The heavenly Jerusalem
From where His blessings stem
4. And too innumerable
Angels, they serve God all
They there, and too assembly
And church of firstborn be
The church of Christ, firstborn He
First risen from dead, see
Their names in heaven written
With spirits of good men
5. Spirits of just men, they made
Perfect, Christ ransom paid
To save them and us, trusting
Salvation He does bring
And there is God, Judge of all
To all He makes His call
And Jesus, mediator
Of new covenant sure
6. His blood does speak things better
Than of Abel, confer
Does He on us His graces
To folk of all races
That blood speaks our forgiveness
In Christ God shall us bless
Turn not away, take heed today
Hear His voice clear alway

Thanks B.
'Turn not away, take heed today'
And I am not turning away from your poems, Orchidee! And sometimes I even try to 'heed' them!
Well penned, as usual!
Thanks Fred. You can turn away from my singing! heehee. You won't know if it's me singing, or two cats fighting though!
If your voice is anything like your poems, it must be heavenly!
"Turn not away, take heed today
Hear His voice clear alway"
Sometimes, like now, I just feel I am bit lost.
Thank you for those beautiful words.
Thanks M. I suppose anyone can just write anything. I might not always practice what I 'preach'. Oops. Those lines seemed to be bouncy and rhyme - away, today, always - old-fashioned 'always'!
Good write once more Orchi.
Thanks G/F/ It might seem like you've come to Sinai, if I start singing - horror, blackness, fearfulness. I mean, me singing could be quite scary. heehee.
