Thank You Labor Day Workers

Accidental Poet

Woke up early this morning

This 2017 Labor Day

Since I’ve got the day off

I’ll stay home from work today

But many people

Their jobs an essential part

They still must work

With coffee their day will start

Doctors and nurses

In operating rooms

A Fireman battles a blaze

Canceling his lunch at noon

A Policeman on the move

Blue lights flashing from his car

Responds to an emergency

Some drunken fool in local bar

Our military personnel

No matter where they roam

Doing what they do

Wishing they were home

And others who sacrifice their time

This American holiday

Those who have to work

Thank you on this Labor Day

Good write and tribute to those who still have to work while the majority are on leave.

Yes, so many have to work on a day that's intended for workers to have a day off. Granted, emergency and hospital employees are needed 24/7, but still it just doesn't seem right. Thanks for reading and your comment Goldfinch. ; )

A fine write. Not Labor Day in UK though! We add those 'u's too - Labour.

Thanks for reading orchidee. Do you have a holiday in the UK for workers?

          • orchidee

Well, we have certain 'Bank Holidays' they're called.

It's good to remember those people who provide essential services no matter what day the calendar says!
