Strong and unyielding I stand against the wind but time has had its way with me I no longer resist the bend
My will as strong as steel a thousand Nations strong now my mind is quickly fading never knowing if I'm wrong
My words could move mountains men would follow to certain death broken words and unfinished sentences the Legacy I have left
Immortal with Godlike strength I once felt that this was true my body no longer listens I can not rise without help from you
So remember who I was as you kindly take my hand and with dignity I will walk as death takes me from this land

- Comment from author about the poem: My Grandmother suffers from Alzheimer's and is quickly becoming worse. I try to remember her as she was but it is tough as she becomes a prisoner of her failing mind and body. This is just a small reminder that one day it could be me.

Very true write. My wife suffers from dementia and the changes are happening almost daily.
It is a terrible thing to watch the ones we love fall far from the strong people whom we have always loved to broken shadows of their former selves. Stay strong my prayers go with you
It's a tough trip. I wish you strength.
Thank you for your kindness
And I lost my father to it - horrible disease written about here with dignity - so well written M
I had an uncle who suffered. He passed but it was so sad to see what happened to him over time. A once vibrant man reduced to a scared child dependent on others to survive. You described it well.
A lovely tribute to an Alzheimer's Patient. It is such a sad debilitating disease. Thank you for the focus 😊
Wow! I had no idea so many people have been touched by this horrible affliction. I thank you all and send my prayers to you and your loved ones.

My grandmother also suffered from Alzheimer's. It is such a cruel and debilitating disease, both for the sufferer, and for those who love them. This poem is beautifully written, and gives a voice to those who are no longer able to speak for themselves. Good work, Mugsdaddy.
