Our mind, equating the red hot furnace
Our thoughts, substitute for hammer and anvil
Our imagination, source of the raw material
To be heated, beaten, hammered and shaped
Pulling the words from our imagination
Holding them into the furnace of our mind
Beating, hammering and shaping them in
Our thoughts into beautiful lines or sentences
Exhausted with sweat running down our spine
We labor in our own word smithy with no regret
Sources, equipment, and tools ever present
Ready to be called and used inside of our heads
To conceive and shape these works of art
We need mind, thought, and imagination
Working together in unity and understanding
Because without it, all we forge is scrap!

- Comment from author about the poem: Am flying to Maui for a few days, so won't be able to comment as much since I have to use my phone. Am not that great with my thumbs! Also, no new poems for a few days.....aren't you the lucky ones! Have a beautiful weekend, and anybody in the path of one of these terrible hurricanes.....be safe!

Nicely said, Fred. We are indeed the crucible for ideas to be forged.
Bravo.
Thanks Frank, love that 'crucible for ideas to be forged'.
A fine summary of the work needed to complete a canvas of artistic poetry - have a great time away Fred - - your work will be missed - safe journey my friend.
Thanks so much Faye, it is only a half hour flight. You know we are the only State in the USA where we have to fly to get from one place to another in the same State! Will be spending time with my son and grand kids who are vacationing on Maui. Looking forward to it!
Very good write, that forge within our minds must always be true to itself.
Thanks Goldfinch, that is what is missing in the poem. That it has to be true, it has to have heart. I only talked about the head and forgot the heart!
No Fred, we are not the lucky ones when we won't have your presence here on MPS for the weekend. But your family will be the lucky ones. Great write, and you have a safe and wonderful weekend. ; )
Thanks so much AP!
You're very welcome Fred. Be safe. ; )
Love this and find it quite inspiring
Thanks so much, Michael!
Scrap is a bit high and mighty for my efforts, being a five letter word, maybe if you take away the first letter the remaining four letter word is my level of output.
Nice writing sir!
Haha! d a, your level of output is way above that 4-letter word!
You certainly have a way with words. Such a great poem. Have a safe flight, we will miss you!
Thanks, Christina, it is so nice to know that one is missed!
Nicely forged smitty ....love this cool poem
Thanks WL, keep on hammering!
Hope you have a good trip! This was a wonderful poem.
Thanks so much poetboy!
You have forged a masterful description of the 'process' of creating poetry, Fred. You deserve a vacation in Maui with your kids! Have fun.
Thanks Louis, it was great. Got a little bit of sunburn now, but was able to recharge the batteries!
❤️ Have a lovely holiday Fred, stay safe.
Thank you BlueDays, I did have a great few days with the kids!
It is not so easy to be a wordsmith, not only it require heavy labor (hammer, beat), but also need to tolerant high heat.
Have a nice trip.
Thanks M&M, you are right, it is the heat that gets to us the most!
Loved your poem and have fun in Maui!
Thanks so much ruby! I did have fun. The beach was great!
Nothing is quite what it seems, especially for a labor of love. How you encapsulate that so well. Thanks for that timely reminder. Wherever it is you are headed, have a wonderful trip.
Thanks so much Seek! I did have a wonderful trip, but it was a little short.
