A thought flattened beneath

A thousand others

More important and more

A thought, not dead

Just barely

Hanging on

Faintly hoping to

Be resurrected one day

To be brought back

Into glorious consciousness

A thought given up for dead

Lost in the system

With nobody looking or

Searching for it

But the day will come

When for whatever reason

That thought will be the

Most important of all thoughts

But by then it might be too late

Thoughts can often be misplaced never to be seen again. Good write Fred.

  • FredPeyer

Thanks Goldfinch! Happens to me more and more!!! :-)

  • Michael Edwards

Thoughts about poems but no pen to hand - soon forgotten - I'm there all the time - enjoyed the read Fred

    • FredPeyer

      Thanks so much Michael!

    • Angelica

Ever since I joined this community, I feel I should wear a new necklace around my neck...pen and pad so I won't forget!
I enjoy reading your pieces very much!
      Thank you

      • FredPeyer

Thank you Angelica! A pen and pad would come handy sometimes!

        • Angelica

When my children were in second grade and it was poetry month, they would say, \"Mommy, I don\'t know what to write when my teacher says, \'it\'s poetry time !\' \"
My suggestion to them was to jot down words and/or ideas that were interesting to the in a pad! Have it with them at all times! Then, when the teacher would ask them to write a poem during the writing block period, they would thumb through their little pad 📝, choose an idea and start to write!
PS- Their teacher liked that pad idea so much that one day, at dismissal, out came 28 smiling second graders displaying their
          new piece of jewelry
they had made! What a splendid sight to behold!

        • virago

I laughed as I finished reading because it reminds me of how often I lose a thought!!! Good write!

          • FredPeyer

Thanks virago! I guess we are all in the same boat!

          • Frank Prem

And the thought will be your poem Fred. Keep your notepad handy.

            • FredPeyer

Thanks Frank! I have to admit that I don't carry any notepads around with me. Had some great ideas while driving, couldn't remember a thing by the time I got home!

              • Frank Prem

It's always the way, Fred. Always. So many good poems adrift out there in the ether, for want of pen and paper.

A fine write Fred. Was there ever any thoughts in me head to start with?! Are me lights on, but no one at home?! lol

                • FredPeyer

Thanks Orchidee! There are days where I feel like that exactly! And sometimes even the lights are out!

                • orchidee

Know what you mean - on occasions a poem may come from 'nowhere' but then forgotten. No pen and paper to hand.

                • Mugsdaddy

Excellent choice of topics. We all have those moments where the universe aligns all the pieces fall into place and we have these amazing ideas that will change the world. Then we commit them to memory only forget them behind the grocery list or the doctors appointment or... Or... A what was I talking about? Oh yea I need yogurt.

                  • FredPeyer

Thanks Mugsdaddy! Yeah, It can get pretty hairy out there in poem thinking land! And if you don't forget, get some yogurt for me too!

                  • dusk arising

Ahhh thats one of those top of the stairs moments isn't it 'now what have i come upstairs for?'

                    • FredPeyer

Thanks da! Do you believe in the hereafter?
I do, every time I walk to the bedroom, stand there, and go "what am I here after?"

                    • Kat

Thought provoking and very true. It could be too late!

                      • FredPeyer

Thanks Kat, I hate it when I know, absolutely know, that there was something real good, but it's gone!

                      • Louis Gibbs

I had a fleeting thought on a clever response to this poem ... but, alas! You speak for us all, Fred.

                        • FredPeyer

Thank you Louis, great comment, LOL!

                        • Santita

Or one of the moments of "why did I come into the kitchen?" Lol. A very relatable piece, Fred - the man of any topic!

                          • FredPeyer

Mahalo Santi! Ending up in the kitchen is usually not too bad, no matter what, I grab something to eat!

                          • James Michael

Here's a thought bud, your coming around. Just let the words flow. I agree with Angelica; it's a good idea to always have pen and paper on you. I've been doing it for years.

                            • FredPeyer

Thanks James, after all these comments, I am going high tech and will be buying one of these small dictating recorders. Some of my best ideas come when driving where I cannot use pen and paper.

                              • James Michael

Cool. Great idea, I see so many people on their stupid phones driving. It is one of the leading causes of accidents. My commute is only 7 minutes and I don't have time for such nonsense. Although I spend too much time at work jotting down notes in my journal!

                              • WL Schuett

My memory sucks I always forget things and never seem to get back thoughts I've had and lost Definitely relate

                                • FredPeyer

Thanks WL, I can relate! Usually have to hold my head sideways so the little bit of brain I have is all in one place!

                                • JaneEVE

                                  so true ,expressed well !

                                  • FredPeyer

Thanks Jane, are you referring to the poem or to my comment to WL? Doesn't matter, either way is true!

                                    • JaneEVE

                                      well both read well!

                                    • myself and me

Short lived thought vanished in the universe, no where to find.
Today's thought has been saved here.

                                      • FredPeyer

Wouldn't it be great to have a thought memory stick?

                                        • myself and me

I am sure there will be one in the future, but even the memory stick is not reliable. If it broken, you would lost all your memories.

                                        • lasergraph

Good piece. I have had many thoughts that just died of loneliness.

                                          • FredPeyer

Thank you lasergraph, and the older I get the more I seem to loose!
