Mind Games

FredPeyer

Not knowing the rules

We are bound to lose every game

The mind plays with us

But what if there are no rules

With the mind making it up

As the game unfolds

As helpless participants

We reluctantly play along

With no chance of winning

Unless we force the mind

To play our own game

With our own rules

We become the house

Not the player

The house always wins

Very true, the house always wins. Good write.

    • FredPeyer

Thank you Goldfinch (see, I got it right this time!)

    • Michael Edwards

Love this message - good one Fred.

      • FredPeyer

Thanks Michael, it is not the greatest poem, but the subject is true.

Oh so true.... but when we do are we blinkered?... aha....
Dunno...to be honest this made me think about it quite a bit.
Brilliant writing, i love to be forced into thought. Thank you.

Thanks da, so sorry, I know it hurts when one has to suddenly think very hard! 🙂

        • Fay Slimm.

Something to think on in that last stanza my friend and very well expressed - my mind often plays games and leaves me with "no chance of winning".

          • FredPeyer

Thanks Fay, I know exactly what you mean!

But if we all play our own game by our own rules, we play against each other. What then? ; )

            • FredPeyer

Thanks AP, we never play against each other, we only play against ourselves! Just try to imagine me getting into your head and playing with YOUR mind! 🙂

            • orchidee

A fine write AP. Has the house got loaded dice?!

              • FredPeyer

Thanks orchidee, the house always has the advantage! And yes, I guess that sometimes they do have loaded dice, at least as far as my own mind is concerned. It does not seem to play fair!

And what if 'we', the collective mind, are making up the rules as we go along? And if so, are the odds of 'winning' any better? And how do we define 'winning?
See, you poem was very thought-provoking, as a good poem should be. Loved it. Kudos, Fred!

                • FredPeyer

Thanks Louis, you brought up an interesting aspect to this game. There IS a collective mind, and it would be much more powerful. I guess the odds of winning would go down, unless....
Winning would be defined by getting the mind to do OUR bidding and not visa versa. The more I think the more I realize that this is either a Pandora's box or way over my head.

I like your idea of wresting control of our minds out of the hands of ego, which is what I understand you to be saying. That would be a win for sure. I always appreciate your thoughtful replies, Fred! Be well, my friend.

I see the game you play
                    I give up my house
                    Just walking like a stray

                    Great write!

                    • FredPeyer

Thanks PD, great comment. But where are you walking to? Or are you just walking away? But you cannot (walk away I mean), that darned mind will always be with you, just like the Force (in Star Wars).

                      • Poetic Dan

I have no desire to have a destination so I may, I've not going away I was just once stuck but now I've found me and wondering freely. Going where the forces take me 😉

Great write! This one had me thinking a bit. But very true!

                        • FredPeyer

Thanks Christina, getting you to think was the purpose of this poem. Actually, I do like mind games, even though I usually lose or get lost in some never never land! 🙂

Great writing Fred. Our mind does plays games with us. We need to be strong. Spiritually they call the mind the donkey. We should ride on the back of it and not let it ride on us. There is a saying: Take your mind for a ride but make sure you sit on the driver side.

                          • FredPeyer

Thanks Malu, great comment. But what if we sit in the driver's seat, but don't know how to drive? Just playing with YOUR mind here! 🙂

                            • malubotelho

Then you will have an accident, for sure.
