don't go down this alley
where truth is told , broken bottles
captured spirit, a complete dead end
lost and fobidden ,all alone
footsteps echo, over your shoulder
behind your back something slithers
bravery runs, courage falters
garbage reeks , light bulbs flicker
the truth in loneliness abides
fish bones and alley cats
deep , dark, frightening an open door
slimey slippery there is no exit
an alley
where truth and honesty thrives
an alley
where only the tough survive
just an alley
do you dare go down alone

I daren't without my comfort blanket - great chill write Bill.
A chilling write, WL! wonder if I've been down this alley or just in my nightmares. This is simply excellent! Also enjoyed the painting!
We all must go down our dark alleys alone. This one sounds like a particularly challenging one, for sure! Well penned, WL!
Great, great writing, WL! For these kind of alleys I have two Samoan friends who are built like linebackers!
This poem reminded me of a Copacabana gallery at night when the stores are closed and if you live there at the building or you need to visit someone there, it gives me chills just to think. I've been in that alley someday. I had to literally run with my heart racing. Awesome writing.
I wouldn't go down that alley no matter how many went with me. Not when there so many other well lit alleys. ; )
Good write. If we do go down that alley, which many of us do, and come out we will be a stronger better person for it.
There is so much to be seen in that artwork, the more i look the more I see - brilliant.
This poem gives you some interesting visuals in your mind. It makes me think of the life of an alley cat, or of homeless people. Their experiences. Their feelings. Interesting. Very interesting. Nice write. 💕 ❤ 😊
