Aubode

Aubade

It’s dawn and the rooster breaks the silence

Its strong wings flaps rumble the small island

A cup of freshly brewed coffee, priceless

The scented breeze, a welcome indulgence

The sun’s light slowly comes to existence

Out the opened window, the horizon

Slowly the starlit sky hides the diamonds

Birds dart the flowers with perfect timing

Singing, chirping, excitingly rhyming

The sun colors, majestically shining

From the kitchen Grandma’s smile inviting

Her smile disarming, lighting, enchanting

“Have something to eat before departing”

You hear the loud music bombarding

My neighbor’s shrieking voice lyrics chiming

A food truck is coming down, coasting

Full of fried foods, bread, and many postings

A high pitch voice shouts, the music busting

The neighborhood dweller’s blood is pumping

A new day has started and is already thumping

  • Comment from author about the poem: This poem is about a typical morning in one of our villages (barrios) in Puerto Rico. Usually the mornings start early at dawn. I used a one-rhyme scheme. Each line ends with the same rhyme. There are 10 words per line, 50 per stanza all around. Enjoy and comments are welcome. I'm working on getting a book published, so any comments will definitely help.

Wow, what a beautiful and inviting portrait you paint of Puerto Rico! I can smell the smells and hear the sounds. So inviting! Great job!

Was like you were describing a morning in Brazil. So Puerto Rico has that hot scene too? Like loud and vibrant with music, flavors, fragancies. Oh! I love it. You made me miss my country. I think I would stay at easy in Porto Rico

What a beautiful way to start the day. You captured the scene perfectly, Roberto.
I think city dwellers are really missing out on a lot. Your day starts with music, laughter and color. Theirs starts with a latte drunk on the go. No comparison!

Thank you Fred for your generous comments. I have a poem written in Spanish that expresses what you're saying in your comments. Maybe I'll translated and share it with MPS.

Super write, the mornings in the UK are not the same but to me that are still special.
                I love the line
"Slowly the starlit sky hides the diamonds"

The diamonds are the stars fading because the sun is up. Thank you for reading my poem.
