I thought that I was clever,
Thought I knew it all.
I wanted to change everything
So that it suited my life,
In the way I wanted it to be.
Then the revelation struck me,
Wisdom came my way.
Wisdom showed me
That to satisfy my life
I could not change anything,
Could not change anything around me.
I must change myself,
Change the way I think.

A fine write Gold. I tend more towards 'Grant us Lord... wisdom to know the difference between what we can and cannot change' or something like that is how it goes.
But us two know everything. All about 1066, the dinosaurs, etc, cos we were there. We carved it on trees ages ago: 'We Woz Ere'.!
Think you'll find Henry 8th cut them down to make ships and put a 'T' in front of 'ere' ! Or so Ann Boleyn told me!
A good message. Wisdom is the ability to recognise some things we can't change and others we can - and to recognise the ability to change those that we can .
Very true Michael. Thank you for commenting.
Goldfinch, I had to make this a favorite!
In these few lines you touch on one of life's most important principles.
Change does not come from outside. Change comes from within.
Yes Fred it does come from within but it seems to take a lifetime of experience to realise that.
Good advice Goldie - if we change ourselves all else around can alter to suit.
Very true Fay, thank you for commenting.
A fine way to look at life , cool poem
Thank you WL most kind.
We can 'know' much, but 'understand' little. A thought-provoking poem, Goldie!
Thank you Louis, much appreciated.
