With a painters eye
I watch the world
in ever changing light
with every scene
I look for composition
I look for values
I look for hues
I look for chroma
I look for perspective
I look for a story or for drama
I look for beauty .
If it all doesn't fit
I change my view
and start all over again
and sometimes I even do it
consciously !

Bill you've really summed it up. I find the more you paint the more you do instinctively like light direction, composition, weight, palette etc and if, as you say, all else fails you have to consciously take stock and actually think.
Michael I know you get this poem , even when you're not thinking about it you look at things through that painters eye
So right. And as painters we see things others don't see and what they do see we see differently like, fir example, the colours in a tree trunk - not just brown and in fact quite often no brown at all. We also notice Architecture - how many non-painters ever look up to see what is around them? Very few.
Could also apply to the poet's eye, would you say? If our muse isn't available, as a last resort we compose consciously. Wonderful poem, WL!
Absolutely Louis !
This is also how a photographer sees life. Always looking to see which side the sun shines from casting shadows. This photo shows a master at work. ; )
I agree same thing for a photographer, thanks AP
Thanks for the wonderful picture and poem and letting us see the canvas through your eyes! Beautiful.
My pleasure , thanks for a wonderful comment
Thanks for opening the door to your creativity! A painter does see the world differently. Great poem, WL!
Super write, all art is built like this, it is what makes it so amazing.
