Just One Wish

Accidental Poet

I try so hard not to let the pain show

Yet I’ll waste no time with paper and pen

Inspired by songs on my radio

Or even the rainbows between Heaven and Earth

Words from my heart to my Mother in Heaven

Of days when a torrential rainstorm is only a drop away

I’m torn between holding it all inside

Or to let it flow as a controlled leak

But to hold it all inside

Sooner or later the floodgates will burst

Still other days when the smiles of love from her

Make my heart shine like the sun

At the risk of being repetitive

The words, the pain and so much love

For a Mother I've not seen since my birth

How many ways can I say how I love and miss her?

Even though I know that she now knows

I have to make up for all the years we never got to share

More than once I’ve been told to move on

And yes, moving on is easier

When the grief is not your own

No birthdays to share

No holidays with Christmas memories to last

With a gravestone before me

Roses in hand, I fall to my knees

To say I love you on Mother’s Day

And if only one wish, anything at all

Just one wish, just one chance

To look upon her smile

Wipe the tear from her eye

Share that hug, to hold in my arms

The part of Heaven that lives inside my heart

Just one wish, just one chance

To spend a day with her

For us both to hear from each other

“I love you”

AP, you wrote an incredible poem for your mom here. I am very lucky to have had a mom who was there for me and who I could comfort in her old age, even if it was long distance.

Thank you Fred. Fortunately you had your mom in your life where you could both comfort each other in the times of your lives where you needed each other. No parent by birth or adoption should have to go through what my birth mother did. But she now knows I've found her. And one day we'll be together again. Thanks for reading and your comment. ; )

Very heartfelt and well done poem for your mother. What a wonderful tribute. I was lucky to have a mom for the time that I did. I think I am at a loss of words for what to say. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks Christina, and just your reading and letting me know you were here says all I need to know. ; )

You have a lot of stored up emotions there AP good to open those flood gates once in a while , especially if we get to read them !

          • Accidental Poet

Thanks WL, notice the copyright date on this write of 2002. The floodgates burst open some years ago and I'm ok now. But for about 3 years it was very hard to find my way. But she helped me find her and to find myself. ; )

That chance to share the love between you will come again, to be sure. Such a tender and beautiful tribute to her and your love for her, AP! Keep the feelings flowing on paper, and keep sharing them to our benefit. Thanks.

            • Accidental Poet

Thank you Louis. I have a very strong belief in Heaven and I know that I'll be with her again. It was just that I had missed the chance to see her again here in the physical world. Thanks for reading. ; )
