Fire To The Phoenix

Accidental Poet

In the depths of the night

I hear the past callin’ me

Don’t you remember

The way it used to be

Rock and Roll was playing

On the radio

Give the volume knob a twist

And baby just let it go

Listen to that guitar

Don’t it lift you off your feet?

Feel the pounding of the drum

Got you stomping to the beat

Sing all the words

Cause you know every line

Just forget the clock

You don’t care about the time

Chorus:

Fire to the Phoenix

Rock and Roll comes alive

Fire to the Phoenix

Makes you feel so right

Fire to the Phoenix

Rock and Roll is alive and well tonight

Some people don’t care

For the music of yesterday

Rock and Roll is dead and buried

For some, that’s what they say

I say it lives forever

Deep within your heart

Just knock on that door

And you’re a rocket to the stars

With hands clapping to the beat

Yeah everybody’s in the groove

Don’t hold back and just let it go

Let the music tell your body how to move

In no time at all

You’ll understand that Rock & Roll

A new religion you’ll feel

In the depths of your heart and soul

Chorus:

Fire to the Phoenix

Rock and Roll comes alive

Fire to the Phoenix

Makes you feel so right

Fire to the Phoenix

Rock and Roll is alive and well tonight

  • Comment from author about the poem: When I write song lyrics, many times I’ll have a melody in my head that sort of helps carry me through the writing process of the song. For this song, that melody was a song by the Rossington Collins Band called, “Don’t Misunderstand Me”. It’s a very upbeat tempo kind of song and it’s exactly the rhythm and feel that I felt in writing “Fire to the Phoenix”. If you wish, you can go to Youtube and listen to “Don’t Misunderstand Me” by the Rossington Collins Band.
