THE POETRY OF JESUS ~ A Rhyming Sonnet

BRIAN & ANGELA

JESUS THE GREAT POET & TEACHER

Don't worry about what you're going to eat

Or the style of the clothes ~ you're hoping to wear

Jimmy Choo's or just plain clogs on your feet

GOD really loves you ~ you are in His care !

Look at the Birds ~ they don't build barns

They have no Store House ~ they don't reap or sow

But GOD feeds them all and keeps them from harms

You mean much more to GOD than a Sparrow or Crow !

Consider wild flowers ~ they grow in profusion

The Lilies are dressed more resplendent than Kings !

Flowers grow in rotation ~ no panic confusion

Birds  Trees & Flowers and all Nature sings !

GOD cares for us too ~ the whole Human Race

He controls the Universe ~ from Heaven ~ His Base !

Thanks for visiting ~ comments welcome ~ Love BRIAN

JESUS is a great Poet and Teacher through Parables !

Read the Gospels ~ Matthew ~ Mark ~ Luke & John

you will be surprised just how many Poems & Parables

there are !  And of course every Psalm is Perfect Poem !

  • Comment from author about the poem: READ the BIBLE ~ in any of the 2000 languages it is printed in ~ or any English Version ! It is full of the most beautiful Poetry and Prose. The language of the Authorised Version is exceptionally beautiful ! It was published in 1611 ~ the time of Shakespeare. Psalm 23 is a fine example written in blank verse. Much of the cadence and linguistic beauty of the AV has been sacrificed (for clarity ?) in modern translations like the NIV (New International Version). In the USA the Gideons still use the AV. In the UK we use the NIV. Comments welcome ~ Love BRIAN XOX

This might fit to a hymn tune, something like 10 .10.10.10. maybe. The first hymn with Jimmy Choo in it! A fine write Brian. Some of nature may just pass us by, and we may not 'see' it properly every day.

Also - maybe things are update, if the AV is seen as ye olde language now. But it loses the poetic style in some modern versions. And don't speak to me about The Message Version! It's piffle in places. Arghh it appears at a church I know. Thankfully not in the main services.

NOW NOW STEVE ~ You are showing your age again ! BUT I agree with you ! The Men who translated the AV (1611) were linguistic scholars who appreciated the beauty of Elizabethan English and the cadence and resonance of spoken English. The language of the AV is Divine when read properly ! Also it has (as you well know) produced an incredible Hymnology and the Scottish Psalter. Thanks BRIAN

Thanks Brian. I'm not insistent on older versions, but some newer ones are naff in places. I mean there's 'Hooray' or similar things in it - cringe-worthy for Scriptures!

Good write, and yes I read the Bible and have read the NIV from beginning to end. Don't tell Orchi but among my many versions I have the Message as well.

        • BRIAN & ANGELA

THANK ANDY ~ We use the NIV ~ NT & Psalms ~ to distribute to Year 7 in most Schools in the UK ~ also in Hospitals & Hotels ! The MESSAGE is a good study Bible and good for private reading. We use the NIV in our Church but some Churches (like the Open Brethren) only allow the AV for public reading and generally have one in the Pulpit ! Blessings BRIAN

Plain clogs are good enough for me...and much more comfortable!😉
A beautiful read for a great write!
          Thank you!

GRAZIE LAURA ~ I am so pleased you are enjoying this fabulous site. The plastic CLOGS (CROCS) are very suitable and practical ! Kids can wear them on the Beach (avoiding broken glass etc) and in the sea. We had plastic sand shoes in the 1980's ! Pleased you enjoyed the Poem ~ Yours BRIAN

            • Laura🌻

              Prego BRIAN!
I can do CROCS...especially when I'll walk the SEVEN HILLS! 😉
              You remember the 80s?!?!
              ~Laura~

CIAO LAURA ~ Well I'm 34 so I was born in 1983 ! I remember my MAMA making me wear plastic sandals on the beach when I wanted to feel the sand between my toes but my real experiences of LIFE began in 2000 when I was "16 going on 17" ! I love the 21st century ~ so much opportunities ~ so in essence I am a Child of the 21st Century ! ~ La Pace e la Luce ~ Yours BRIAN

A lovely and upbuilding read for today - thanks for the reminder of the greatest of poets dear Brian.

                • BRIAN & ANGELA

Thanks FAY ~ My parents are SABBATARIANS so we always "Keep Sunday Special" and that applies to the Poems I post ~ I wouldn't want to upset my Mum ! The psalms in the AV are very poetic ! Yours as ever BRIAN

Never thought of the bible as a book of poetry, or of Jesus as a poet. Interesting, Brian! Thanks for this new slant. Good, informative write!

                  • BRIAN & ANGELA

Thanks LOUIS ~ much is lost in translation. Many of the PSALMS ~ in Hebrew ~ use alliteration. I PSALM 119 for instance ~ each of the 22 ~ 8 verse stanzas (176 verses) is designated by a separate letter from the Hebrew Alphabet ! Verses 1 to 8 are called ALEPH (A) and each of the verses begins with the letter ALEPH (A). The Song of Solomon is a beautiful love Poem etc. The BIBLE was written to be read and recited ~ hence its poetic form. Yours BRIAN
