As I look ahead
To the sureness of tomorrow
In my rear view mirror
How will I critique my shadow?
Maybe I’ll frown
Of poorly chosen ways
Or smile of sweet memories
Serene and tranquil days
Possibly I’ll see a fool
And I’ll laugh at my silly self
Or perhaps just sigh
As I recall sitting on that shelf
The pages we turned
Now in the past
What did we learn?
Questions now we ask
I don’t expect to hold
Every acquisition I seek
For my contentment rests
Just in earning my keep
To leave behind
The good measure of my name
Oh, how I pray to God
It’s not bathed in shame
For good intentions all too often
Fall victim of shifting sand
And the end result
Is all most people understand
And admission of my faults
I left aloft in the air
Far less than perfect
Yes, I’m well aware
If in the end
I come out even
What more could I ask for?
Then, from this world I’ll be leaving

Thought provoking poem here, AP! I like it! It seemed like a good idea at the time, but today we know more and look differently at what we did in the past. Cannot change it, but maybe learn?
Thanks Fred. Yes hindsight is a great teacher with us all as students in the classroom of life. ; )
But you is not gone yet, and you wrote this in 2011! Stay around some time - hope you do! 🙂
Orchi, I've no plans on bailing out yet. Too much still I need to do in life. And somebody's gotta keep you in line, right? We can't have you swooning around all over the place. What'll all the non-poets think? ; )
Very good write, the past is behind us and gave us the experience to cherish what we have and will have upin the future. Live it to the best of your ability.
Looks like Goldie has been paying close attention in the classroom of life. Thanks Goldie. ; )
I have been in that classroom for a very long time.
Waving from the other side of the classroom. ; )
I am also so aware of my own imperfections , to come out even at the end I think would be great , love this poem AP
That's all we can ask for WL. Thanks for reading and your compliment. ; )
a nice preview of your thoughts, where do we go from here after we have reached our peak in life, not ready to stop, but begin again, where do we go from here...
We'll get our new assignments upon reaching the other side when that time arrives. Until then just keep on truckin' Ron. ; )
hope it is a much better one..
Keep the faith Ron. Keep the faith. ; )
