THE MARTYRS CROWN
With gestures born of habit
he wore the martyrs crown
and so with heavy heart he knew
no choice of route, no upper hand
remained in his dominion.
Embittered sadness showed its face
now led away by fortune’s chain
no more the gesture of command
when exercising intellect
his fate: his abdication signed.

Good write M.
Cheers O
Oohhh make me a crown, for me impending marriage to KP (Kate Price) being arranged on here. For me, that is, not as a tiara for her. I'm the martyr! heehee.
Very strong watercolor Michael , the martyr poem was cool 😎 also
Thanks Bill - it was ink applied with a stick plus watercolour.pen
A super-good read from your poetic pen Michael plus an exquisitely brushed waterr-colour - another great posting.
So pleased you enjoyed them both Fay.
I read in this one a dethroned monarch, brilliantly portrayed. Well done poem and watercolor both, Michael!
Just the image I had in mind when I wrote it - thanks for the comment Louis
Love the watercolor! And a great write to go with it!
Thanks Christina (love your new photo by the way) currently working on a sort of Pollock dotty painting - might post it with tomorrows poem.
Looking forward to tomorrows poem then with the painting!
Thanks Michael ~ Lovely Painting and a nostalgic Poem. Historically I love the 1930's and your Poem reminded me of the tragic love~struck figure of KING EDWARD VIII ~ However I think the Country got a much better deal with King George VI & Queen Elizabeth which also gave us Queen Elizabeth II . Thanks for sharing ~ BRIAN
