It’s Just a Fantasy

Accidental Poet

It’s Just a Fantasy

Once upon a time

When trees weren’t so tall

In love with a young girl

A young boy did fall

A long ago mirror

Reflected a young boy’s face

Now an aging man

Love’s tears leave a trace

A man of sixty years smiles

At sight of a man and woman

An elderly couple holding hands

Invested deep, love’s devoted veterans

The man remembers his own love

Her name, face and smile

Within the core of his aging heart

Year after year, mile after mile

In quiet reflection

He misses her

In his favorite dreams

He softly kisses her

Staring into her eyes

He says “I love you”

He imagines her reply

“I love you too”

But alas, it’s just a fantasy

A fantasy almost as old as he

An aging man still in love

His first and last love is she

    AP,
    Another beautiful poem!
Love the musical accompaniment! NOSTALGIA...what a feeling!
You’re making me relive my youth...
Without a care in the world...
    Only wanted my dream man
and my music to carry me through!
    ...and then reality took over!
My first read of the day!
It will sustain me all day long!
    Thank you!
