THE ANCIENT LAND

Michael Edwards

THE ANCIENT LAND

Far wide across this journeyed land

unseen marine in margin lies

beyond the blue-grey mountain band

where screeching gulls declare domain

And with the bending of the eye

from points of vantage over folds

where sweeps of mist and vagueness lie

beneath the mountains rise and fall

Throughout this vista racing gales

breathe hitherward across the steep

with changing light upon the vales

displaying stress of natures call

Bestowed at night by unseen moon

a melancholic radiance

and through it all the path long hewn

a link in landscapes ageless form.

That is quite a castle in your painting! Well done, gorgeous actually.
And the poem isn't too shabby either! 🙂 I love the line 'bestowed at night by unseen moon'. Sounds lovely, like a gift. But then, so is your poem, Michael, a gift to all of us.

      Michael,
Really like the colorized version of yesterday’s drawing! The resemblance to the estate I mentioned in your previous poem is becoming more apparent! Quite beautiful and a great poem. The second stanza was my favorite!

Thanks Laura and another version to follow tomorrow.

Super write again Michael - ancient the land and so well expressed in your poem its boundaries - love the colour added to yesterday's sketch - you are so clever with brush and pen.

I really enjoy the water color paint. The ancient land you paint in the poem is full of life.

Both your poem and painting a window to a beautiful past. Your talent is amazing Michael.

The poem describes the beauty of what nature was hewn. The picture, an example of the beauty man has hewn. Both well represented, Michael!

Cheers Louis - your comments are so much appreciated,

BEAUTIFUL PAINTING & POEM ! Thanks Michael ~ I love the Stately Homes of England and the Empathy in your poem for the beauty of the English Landscape. In all seasons and at any time in the Day or date in History. In my mind there is as much a link of Picture & Poem as there is in the Santi & Brian collaboration on LOVE ! Beauty and the symbiosis of PICTURE & POEM is in the EYE & MIND of the beholder ! Yours as ever ~ BRIAN
