With hindsight, I can see that we were foolish,
but it was easy to get swept up
by the moment,
and to believe.
Looking back of course, it's easy to work out,
but I was there when it happened
and there was nothing anyone could do
but go along,
and for a moment,
to believe.
Somebody shouted out, 'It's Elvis!'
A hundred eyes were turned
to the sound.
Almost everybody knows that Elvis
is gone,
but we all turned around,
and more than one of us believed,
for just a moment,
maybe it was Elvis.
I know that we were, all of us, quite foolish.
It only took a moment in the crowd.
I suppose that there are lessons
to be learned
about payment of attention,
but for a moment I believed
I saw a sequin flash and disappear
inside 'Aladdin's Cave',
just behind a knick knack shelf,
in a fast moving hint
that maybe I saw Elvis.

Good write Frank but I am afraid that "Elvis has left the building".
When the name Elvis is said the world knows who we are talking about - a wonderful reputation he created.
This piece was written a few years back, when it really could have been him ... maybe ... LOL
He's a great trademark of a name, isn't he?
Good write Frank. I seen him! It's a guy about town, and at church too sometimes. He don't look like Elvis, mind you, but collects all his stuff!
Elvis-abelia? Glad he's keeping the faith, O. Thank you.
Thanks FRED ~ In the Beginning was ELVIS ~ he blessed and influenced the Whole World ! Those of us born ~ after the death of ELVIS missed the euphoria but not the MAN ~ George Beverly Shea said "Though he is dead ~ he lives on through his incomparable recorded Music" (850 tracks) ! We used to say "Next year Gracelands" I visited in 2003 and I DID SEE ELVIS ~ AMEN ! Yours BRIAN
Cheers Brian. Must have been a thrill to visit.
A little bit of Elvis lives in all of us Frank. I remember Elvis very well. He was a class act certainly. Thank you for this poem.
Cheers AP. You're welcome.
