Dancing With the Light
Captivated by the history
Driven in the search
Relics of photography
In me a priceless worth
Since the early 1800s
Imagery evolution
Perfected over time
A photographic institution
To record images
Portraits and landscapes
Documenting history
The story a photographer makes
Poetic justice
In the photograph
A scene too beautiful for words
That it made you cry or laugh
Tools of the trade
Cameras began so crude
The cutting edge of technology
Always advancing to improve
From film processing
To the digital age
You know it had to happen
Photography turns another page
The need for film
In a camera almost gone
Now a memory card
Records the picture on
See the shot right away
On LCD monitor
The evolving camera
Now develops and stores
Download your shots
To computer file
Print them out yourself
Bringing to your face a smile
Suddenly you realize
When holding the camera right
It’s more than just the shot you take
You’re dancing with the light

A well written tribute to photography and its evolution, AP. Great last line ... "Dancing with the light"! Kudos.
Thanks Louis. I remember having cameras when I was a kid, but then they were JUST cameras. Now the antique cameras I have are prized possessions that fascinate me to no end. It just amazes me that since the start of the Industrial Age cameras were there recording it all the way up to present day. Thank you for reading Louis. If you have the time, check out the video.
Dancing with the light, recording the moments, frame the history. Well done.
Thank you m&m. Appreciate your visit and reading.
AP your love for photography shows through here , cool poem
Thanks Bill. Photography for me is like your painting is to you. And I do see the passion you put into every painting you've shown here. ALWAYS very realistic looking. Your color tones are perfect. Even your shadows are so perfect and realistic. When I was young, I always wanted to draw, but was never that good. And one day photography just hit me over the head and I was hooked for life.
Good write, I used to work with a photographer in my days as an analytical chemist a very long time ago and he used to use a 5” x 4” plate camera back then. All the pictures of my first baby were in black and white and I developed and printed them all. Photography has always fascinated me.
Thanks for reading Goldie. I don't have a camera like the one you mentioned, but I do have some glass plates with images on them. If you have the time, watch the video here, it is amazing.
Good write AP.
Thanks orchi. You ok? I heard you passed out at your wedding or something. How's your new wife? And where's the Honeymoon taking place? Or are you still recovering from the wedding?
Thanks AP. Oh woe, I'm having a terrible time! lol.
Just take two asprin and call me in the morning.
Great write AP about photography and it's evolution. I treasure those old black and whites of family photos. And of course the current ones but I love the line" dancing through the light"--you really did this poem poetic justice!!
Thank you Christina. Part of taking a picture, the camera and the lens work together to control the amount of light that comes into the camera and makes the image. And the person taking the shot can manipulate the light for different exposures for different results. So in that process I realized it's sort of a dance with the light to make the exposure. Thanks for reading Christina.
An exciting read full of nostalgic interest on the art of photography in days gone by - - an inspired title which finishes the verse very well - "Dancing with the Light" is now about to tip-toe into my faves A.P.
Thank you Fay, is that doing the two step or the watusi?
Be it with a camera, or be it with a pen, I think we are all 'dancing with the light'.
Very well written poem (we expect that from you by now), but that 'dancing with the light' line is pure genius!
Thank you very much Fred, I'll try to live up to those expectations. And that line is just a figure of photographic speech. Controlling the light that enters the camera through the lens. Thanks again Fred.
the development of capturing images has been incredible. you have written a fine piece here, AP. good work.
Thank you Kevin. That's what amazes me so much is how long photography has been advancing, the whole industrial age. That's almost 200 years.
And thank you for the friendship invite. I'd thought I had requested it of you a week or two ago. No mater, long as it's done now. Glad to know you Kevin. I enjoy your writes.
