Tune: St Anne

('O God our help in ages past')

********

Psalm 42 v.5

Why are you cast down, O my soul

The Lord will make you whole

Hope you in Him, I shall yet praise

Him, and shall more songs raise

Psalm 42 v.5-6

I shall praise Him for His help sure

Yet now soul cast down, poor

But  you will come unto my aid

Plans good for me you laid

Psalm 42 v.11

He the health of my countenance

His presence near I sense

He my God be, I Him worship

Serve Him in deed and lip

Psalm 43 v.3

O send out your light and your truth

Shelter me in your booth

Your light and truth, I pray lead me

To [your] tabernacle free

Psalm 43 v.3

Then I will go unto your place

Your holy hill, where grace

Flows forth from you, my God, my joy

And where no sins annoy

Psalm 41 v.11

By this I know you favour me

Your good hand here I see

That you do not let enemy

Have triumph over me

Psalm 41 v.1-3

Blessed are they who do help the poor

The Lord will help them sure

In their own troubles and distress

Will strengthen and them bless

  • Comment from author about the poem: A hymn-poem in 8686 (Common Metre = CM). Taken from a couple of 'darkish' Psalms, but there are 'darker' ones, when the Psalmist's call down vengeance, etc on enemies. Not particularly for Remembrance, but I likes the tunes - all patriotic too! I was in Westminster Abbey when they sang the hymn of the same tune name - Christ is made the sure foundation.

Thanks wc. Who can bear my singing? I shall have to be lost in a crowd such as in the clip. No-one will hear me then! lol.

Thanks STEVE ~ The hymn is a great prelude to the Lord's Day ! Love the balanced 8686 quatrains based on verses of individual Psalms ! An excellent poetic structure for such a venture ! I will be paraphrasing Psalm 89 tomorrow ~ a Sonnet of course ! Thanks for sharing & caring ~ BRIAN

orchidee, I have selective hearing, so don't worry about me regarding your singing. I am happy to read your hymns, listening to you singing them would be just a little bit too much. Just sing them to KP!

Thanks Fred. Erm, 'select' not to hear me singing then! lol.
