(c) 2017 Edward York
Thanksgiving time is coming,
New memories to be made.
Dad positions the golden turkey,
Beneath the shiny blade.
The slices have all been plated,
With dressing on the side.
All items have been completed,
And served with a dose of pride.
The family finally comes together,
No one is left alone.
We even try to manage,
To shut off the nagging phone.
The OMG will still be waiting,
No need to rush and see.
You will find life has more to offer,
Than just an O-M-G.
So spend this time together,
Don't rush it by too fast.
You can never know for certain,
If this might be your last.

Great reminder, lasergraph, am looking forward to Thanksgiving!
It is truly a family time.
So, so true. It made me nostalgic in remembering the last Thanksgiving with my mom. You did a great job on this poem! Loved it!
Thank you. Thanksgiving is truly a family holiday.
A fine write and feast laser.
The gathering of family has no equal. I hope yours is blessed.
Thanks laser. We got to wait until Christmas here in the UK.
Yes Ed, Thanksgiving Day is as it began with family and friends, just as the Pilgrims did nearly 400 years ago. I work in Plymouth, Massachusetts where they are gearing up for big celebrations in 2020.
Can't get any closer to the original than that. I think that sounds to be interesting and the history should ooze out of the celebration. Can we assume maybe some period dress with the celebration?
Oh yes Ed, the original village the Pilgrims established is still there and people portrayed as the Pilgrims work and live as they did. Even local Indian descendants get in on the scene. And yes, there will be big celebrations around Thanksgiving 2020. But I'm afrain the parking lot might be a bit crowed to say the least.
Good write and very true, although we do not have Thanksgiving in the UK spending time together with family and friends is special and to be enjoyed without the 'nagging 'phone'.
We seeem to be too phone happy these days, I see families in restaurants on their phones and no one talking.
That should be banned. I read an article once where a family were at dinner and all except the father were on the 'phones, so he turned to them and said "I am sorry to be so rude" and picked up a book.
I hope he made a point. It is far too common. Those little devices run our life.
