Unexpected Moments.

Goldfinch60

There is that song again,

A song so beautiful

Its tune reaches straight into my heart.

Once unknown,

But I remember when,

So many, many years ago,

That I first heard it.

It spoke to me then,

As it does now,

And yet I forget about it

Until those times it comes back,

To remind me of its beauty.

Of its wonder,

Of its sadness,

Of its melancholy,

Such a special song,

That comes to me,

In unexpected moments.

  • Comment from author about the poem: The song is ‘None but the lonely heart’ by Tchaikovsky and I first heard it in error, I had a record of Beethoven’s fifth piano concerto, the first movement was on side one, I turned over the record to play the next two movements when this song was played, there was an error on the record production but it gave me this song as the first one in a set of Tchaikovsky songs.

Absolutely beautiful, I completely know how that feels and live it again in your writing.

A fine write Gold. I know a few songs of melancholy, some of which may be slushy! I'm singing plenty of them now. It will be my 'everlasting theme'. as one hymn says, now I've got KP for ever. Oh woe!

Thank you Michael. It is a beautiful song and it really hit me when I first heard it probably back in the sixties.

        O’ my goodness...
        This reminded me of one
of my mom’s favorite movies with Cary Grant! Today I shall let her
        hear the song!
        Thank you!

It is amazing how some trigger will serve to remind us of that which we hold dear.

A beautiful poem, Goldfinch! I like the way you relate words to music. The song is great too. Had to listen to it about five times in order to at least understand about half of the German words.

Thank you Fred, as I said that song came into my life by accident, I even have a copy of Frank Sinatra singing it (in english), but I first heard it sung by a soprano and that is the way that I prefer to hear it.
