Mankind in Dreamland

Pestered and pursued
by unknown foes
A topsyturvy land
where snakes can have horns
and cows can have fangs.
Night'mares' where the day's stallions
make mountains out of molehills

A chance to witness greek mythology-like creatures for real
For dreamland tis a place for the unreal and surreal.

Those hair-raising scary scary dreams
beset with horrified silent screams!

We do try to interrupt nightmares, pinching ourselves
With relief wake up to see there aren't any horrid elves.
We also try to interpret dreams filled with mystery
But gifted dream interpreters like prophet Joseph
Are now part of biblical human history

All in all, dreamland's fascination
for extra-ordinary exaggeration
and tall-tale imagination

Where myth and legend come to life
An amalgam of fiction or real strife

Where assorted monsters of the mind
reign supreme in that REM sleep of our kind.

Yet on the other hand the wishful, wistful sweet sweet dreams
where fantasies form mirages bordered by fanciful seams.

Where castles in the air that humans build, float gently down to earth
only to shoot back up unto nowhere from the awakened one's berth.

In dreamland a pauper girl can be a princess or fairy fair
for daydreams extend into the night and linger on there.

A quote I took to heart and it to console all and sundry
'that if your sweet dreams don't come true, don't you fret
for atleast your nightmares didn't come true either,
so just heave a sigh, by and by.

Every night let us all just fly away and escape
And lo behold  the extraordinary world of Dreamscape

Good write zaynab. Some dreams can be meaningful. With others, man is in cloud cuckoo land, as they say. Where is that?! lol.

Cuckoo land eh, yeah true. Love your comment. Warm thanx.

Good write, our dreams can send us into many differing worlds both real and unreal.

I love this, perfectly worded. I love how you take you us on a journey of your dream. Very well put togather.
Thanks for sharing such a good write.

Ah Yes, Dreams and nightmares battles of the night between the day brain and the subconscious – the latter pinching pixels from the former to make of them what it will. Reality up for grabs as a comb cuts the throat of the dreamer who then eats the comb which wasn't a comb at all but a salt and pepper spare rib – the moral being: don't eat cheese before bed. A well constructed work of which you should be proud. Joe

Dreams really are complex things, but you described them perfectly. Loved the poem!

Thanks FRIEND ~ Love your visual it stirs my memories of many vivid dreams in the last 30 years ! I started dreaming when I was about 4 ! I forget most of them ~ even the vivid ones ~ but for me most of my DREAMS are more NATURAL than FANTASTIC and relate to situations and scenery that is not unfamiliar ! I meet with people past & present and fictional ~ and some situations are scary but not really "nightmares" ! I have looked at interpretations ~ most are rational ~ but it is a big subject and for most of us a "closed book" ! Thanks for caring & sharing ~ Yours BRIAN (UK)

Thanx for an interesting comment, yeah we forget many dreams by daylight. Yeah the interpretation part is real deep philosophical. Cheers.

A fun read Kamoonpury - a poem of a horizon where everything is probable - the three-fold interpersonal dimension of the human soul (the numinous experience, the religious intuition, and conscience). I enjoyed your poem.

conscious and subconscious dreaming.. the one you speak off like the pictures of Salvador Dali, can look surreal and make sense and on the flip-side looks like it makes sense but feels surreal.. Amazing master piece x
