THE CONFORMIST
His ordered life was uniform
he felt incumbent to conform,
so being always orthodox
he only thought within the box.

- Comment from author about the poem: I have a dislike of many sayings which are really quite nonsensical such as ' to think outside the box'. What box and who gets into a box to think in the first place? Anyway this is me hitting back - just a fun write in 4 by 8 syllables.

That box may get buried within the conformity of life.
Good write Michael.
Or in the graveyard above - thanks Andy.
Yes - and how big is the box? And what is it made of - cardboard, wood? I must know these things. I lose sleep with not knowing them. Do you too?!
And 'basically' as everyone says, 'at this moment in time', etc, etc - a fine write and pic Michael
Cheers Orchi, to answer your points:
It's plastic - got it from Poundstretcher - you can cut a hole in the lid and pop your head out to do all the thinking you want - very useful. Mind you I wouldn\'t be seen dead in one although I am a bit worried about it - the neighbours dressed to kill - he's wearing a balaclava.
Is there another moment in time? I can't talk about it - I've got no tongue - that damned cat's run off with it.
Really Sir, its a short gem!
Thank you for your kind words.
Michael,
Lots of truth in that fun write!
Love the painting!
Watercolor?
Thank you Laura - yes a watercolour in the style more associated with the UK. Not sure about the continent but the Americans tend to use a more colourful palette.
The box of sheer conformity is something we need to think about escaping from and yes I agree we are surrounded by sayings such as this one Michael - - great work with the brush again.
Thank you Fay. Yes although it was written partly out of a dislike for these sayings I also wanted to make a valid point out of it.
The "Box", to me, is the programming we receive, teaching us 'what to think' rather then 'how to think'. Once ingrained, it is difficult to let our minds explore outside of it. The ones who let their minds escape 'the box' are the ones who move the species forward.
This poem nails it, Michael! Excellent write.
Have to agree - we are programmed from an early age and rarely taught to question - if we were there would, hopefully, be a lot more understanding and tolerance.
Sometimes, the box is invisible.
And sometimes we are blind - thanks m&m.
I always say, "Think outside of the big picture, " and people say, "What?"
Whatever kind of box it is, you've put the lid on it and nailed it shut with your "uniform, conform, orthodox, box " rhyme. I find it conveys the thought perfectly. Well done Michael. Beautiful painting by the way. - Phil A.
Thank you Phil for your compliments - missed your postings by the way.
To me 'thinking outside of the box' is like an out of body experience, where we look at ourselves and our lives from a different perspective, free of all constraints, limitations, and conventions.
Great poem, great rhyming too!
thanks so much Fred.
