Americans ~ when they visit England ~ are amazed how like

Fortresses & Castles our Homes are.  Each house has gates

and hedges and walls round them ~ to keep Intruders out

and the Kids in ! In the UK we have sensible "Gun Laws"

But in the LOBBY (entrance hall) you will find walking sticks

hockey sticks ~ umbrellas etc. These all make excellent

defensive weapons if the intruder only has a knife !

Glad you are back! Nice picture to illustrate your poem. Very nice poem indeed! I also liked your commentary at the bottom. Gives me some insight. Great job! Sisterly hugs, Christina

Thanks CHRIS ~ Pleased you liked it ~ I always like to make my poems meaningful ! English Homes (externally and internally) have to be BELIEVED to be SEEN ! The same with English Villages ! The trip went well ~ more later and a poem about Christmas Fairs tomorrow ! Smotherly Brotherly HUGS ~ BRIAN "Brother Christmas"

Good fun write Brian, only one minor criticism that I will put down to 'Poetic Licence' it should be CUPPA not CUP in the first stanza.

        • BRIAN & ANGELA

Thanks ANDY ~ Have edited to CUPPA ~ BUT ~ as it is a Rhyming Sonnet I have had to change UP to UPPER ~ UPPA looked a little crude ! Thanks for comment. We goo to SIZEWELL HALL (near Nuclear Power Station on E Coast) for Spiritual & Physical (we glow when we come out of the sea and the Radiotherapy is free !) Regeneration. On the daily schedule the Coffee & Tea Breaks are always designated as CUPPA ~ so it rang a (refreshment) BELL ! Yours BRIAN

Thanks M & M ~ "An Englishman's Home is his Castle" so we try to make them as baronial as possible ! I am in a very nice second floor FLAT ~ at the moment ~ but one day I will live like a LORD like my Parents ! Hugs BRIAN XOX

Nice house, nice picture, nice poem. And as you point out, in America we are different, wide open, no walls, no fences, letting light and neighbors in.

          • BRIAN & ANGELA

THANKS FRED ~ Yes that is one of the first differences (apart from spelling !) that I noticed in the States ! I guess it is pert of our Island Mentality ~ build a Castle ~ dig a Moat ~ pull up the Drawbridge ! We do speak to our neighbours (if necessary !) but it's mainly their Dogs & Kids we are keeping out ! Yours BRIAN

            Mio Caro Amico BRIAN...
            Un bel cancello!
How did I miss this one!
Wow 😯What a beautiful gate keeping a beautiful home safe! English homes are a sight to behold! A great teaching poem! I learned quite a bit! Grazie!
            Un Forte abbraccio e baci...

GRAZIE LAURA ~ MIA AMICA PRECIOSA ! Pleased you liked the Poem and also learned why the English are so proud of our Houses and why they are so expensive. In the S E of England (where I live) the cheapest two to three bedroom house cost at least $500,000 ~ apartments are cheaper ! I live in a 2 bedroom flat but hope to buy a House soon. We are very proud of our houses and for privacy (e prendere il sole nudi !) we like enclosed rear Gardens and a smaller front Garden as well ! "La casa di un inglese e il suo CASTELLO ~ AMEN ! Baci y Abbracci in profundi BRAIN "Uomo di Neve! XOXOX

Sì, è bello prendere il sole nudi! 😉
