I Am Poem
I am a person with hopes, dreams, fears, and questions.
I wonder about everything, I am always, always asking why.
I hear the sadness in others when I pass them..
I see my difficult past when I close my eyes for sleep.
I want to live up to everyone's expectations, when I know it is impossible.
I am a person with hopes, dreams, fears, and questions.
I pretend that if I switch the second light switch in my room up and down enough, it will bring good luck.
I feel the wind across my reddened, heated face after crying over her death.
I touch my friends arm when I think that he is being swallowed by his troubles.
I worry that I will fall in love with him despite him not being able to reciprocate.
I cry often, because of the feeling I have swirling inside my heart and the worries in my mind.
I am a person with hopes, dreams, fears, and questions.
I understand that most of my feelings are ridiculous and unwarranted.
I say that I am fine, which really means "freaked out, insecure, neurotic and emotional."
I dream constantly that I am swallowed by a tsunami.
I try to be accepted by everyone, despite considering if I am accepted by myself.
I hope that I will not die all by myself.
I am a person with hopes, dreams, fears, and questions.

Thank you ELAINE for another very elegant POEM ~ Each line commencing with the same word "I" and each verse ending with a repletion (very important in classical poetry) which is also the opening line of the Poem ! "I am a person with hopes ~ dreams ~ fears ~ and questions" This oft repeated line exemplifies the theme of the Poem. Your Poem is "free verse" but has plenty of Rhythm ! I love this poem and can empathise ~ because I share many of your Hopes ~ Dreams ~ Fears and Questions ! Thanks for sharing ~ Yours BRIAN
I can do no more than endorse Brian's comments - a fine write indeed.
Thank you!
