Preparing A people

Tune: Gonfalon Royal

('The royal banners forward go')

Matthew 11 v.1-15 parts

********

Jesus spoke of John Baptist, He

Said, 'What went you to desert see?

A reed shaken with a wind strong?

Or one clothed in flowing robes long?'

Did you go a prophet to see?

Yes, I tell you a prophet he

Was, John the Baptist, and he more

Than a prophet he was for sure

For he that 'second Elijah'

Was, messenger of God did stir

Sent before the face of the Lord

To prepare folk to hear His word

The Lord's way John prepared, and true

Among them all, that born of you

The human race, there none more great

Than John, his be the highest state

Yet even so, the least, whoe'er

In God's kingdom, 'tis no compare

Such a one is greater than he

They are now saved eternally

Look up, take comfort, for you be

Included in His kingdom free

Where all confess Jesus, Lord He

Subject to Him, all bow the knee

Thanks Gold. I got a long word in a poem soon. Ohhh! Not the hippo-word though. Did you meet the author of the original hymn, Fortunatus (his surname), around 550AD? He gave me some tips!
