Standing proud and solitary
Enduring the onslaught
Of wave after wave
For thousands of years
Never giving an inch
Recalcitrant in his stance
The rock
Bent and crippled
From the punishing winds
Attacked by snow and ice
For hundreds of years
But surviving against
All odds and hardships
The tree
Visible from afar
Reaching to the sky
Proud in its defiance
Of burning sun and drought
Persevering despite
Inhospitable environment
The Saguaro
I am Rock
I am Tree
I am Saguaro

Very good positive write, there forever.
Thank you Goldfinch! We, or our work, will be there forever!
A fine write Fred. Ahh, saguaro, those big cactus things. Don't seem 'em in UK!
Thank you orchidee! No, they are definitely not in the UK, they are native of Arizona, but I figured everybody knows them and they would be representative for what I wanted to say.
Super work Fred
Thanks Michael, quite a change from the previous one. Back to normal I guess.
Survival is all around it we but look at these great examples Fred - thank s for this fine reminder.
Thanks Fay, I have seen some solitary trees in some of the most toughest places in the Alps and marveled at their survival. We are all survivors!
A fine metaphor of mankind's resilience. Well penned, Fred!
Thanks Louis, they are metaphors and the are actual examples of life not giving up, even under the worst of circumstances.
Fred...
A resilient man you are!
Bravo! Loved reading
your poem! The metaphors
are exquisite! Awesome!
~Laura~
Thanks Laura, am not so sure that I could really be that rock or that tree, but I would at least try! Life is tenacious.
Tenacious...
One of my favorite words!😉
stay solid dude!
I am trying, I am trying! Thanks Kevin.
I think it's all been said, but it's a beautifully written poem, Fred!
Thanks Christina, there is nothing new under the sun, but we can say it in different ways!
I am glad orchidee told me what a saguaro is. I am definitely a tree. Love the different powers of each one .
Thanks Elsie, looking at rocks in the ocean, or trees high up in the Alps, I admire their resilience. Would be nice if we could be like that too. Not for hundreds of years though, just think how long we would have to work before retiring!
Yeah, right. I would want to change jobs if we did. I would like to be a rock for a while I think, a bit more solid and upright, instead of weighed down. Look I am still up!! I am OFF TO BED, FRED! goodnight (morning?)
