THE HOBBY HORSE ~ INVENTED IN 1818 ~ FIRST BICYCLE
BICYCLES are 200 years old in 2018
In 1818 the HOBBY HORSE was invented
CYCLE with two wheels and a seat ~ no pedals !
You pushed it along with your feet ~ easy to
CYCLE downhill ~ you had to push it uphill
later (1858) pedals were added to the front wheel
ENTER the Penny Farthing in 1866 ~ SCARY !
HISTORY records lots of BICYCLE Innovations
In 1880's ~ Chain drive with pedals in the middle
Soon we had brakes and bells for safety
Tyres (inflatable) for comfort in 1890 ~ DUNLOP
Oh ! Gears were introduced ~ for hills ~ 1900
RALEIGH and other companies ~ Worldwide production
YOU can now get a BICYCLE anywhere ~ no FUEL required !

No fuel - just muscle power - nice one Brian.
True Michael as well I remember when I used to do a lot of distance cycling (100 + miles per day !) A good diet and lots of muscle power ~ I have great admiration for the World Class UK Olympic Cycling Top who have most medals in the last three OLYMPICS ~ Good local tracks ~ Good traning and Good financial support ! I am especially pleased that (at last) we are successful in the Tour de France ! Yours BRIAN.

Thanks STEVE ! I was going to show a Picture of you on your Hobby Horse ~ but I settled for the pic of your SISTER instead ! My Granddad tells me that the wheel invented itself ! They were out in the sledge felling timber and when they sawed a thick log into sections ~ they suddenly had four wheels which they attached with spears to the four corners of the sledge ~ hitched up the Dogs and invented the first BUGGY ! GRACIAS CHRISTINA ~ Mi Padre is a great cyclist and I have always ridden a bike since I was 3 ! Very convenient ~ very cheap ~ very healthy ! Considering that the WHEEL is thousands of years old ~ I am surprised that the BICYCLE (Hobby Horse) for individual transport ~ was only invented 200 years ago ! Everything has a History and a Mystery ! In WW1 and WW2 the UK troops had folding bicycles which could be packed in a bag and dropped undamaged by parachute !
