Edge - Co-Written by Goldfinch and Hood.

As the light of dawn breaks

The dark of the night is repelled

And once more the beauty of the day

Starts to shine before us

Light winning over darkness

Bereft of illumination

I cower in the shadow

The sun’s glare long receded

The cold of night reverberates

Stirring life into my aching body

Darkness consumes me whole

The noon day is with us

And once more light has conquered all

That light which shows us the way

To a life of bright harmony

Light winning over darkness

Rain clouds deprive the moonlight

Bringing a shower of pain

I stand releasing my agony

Silence comforts me with skeletal fingers

Slowly suffocating my existence

Darkness consumes me whole

This world is so full of strife

It stands on the edge of a knife

The dark and the light

Continue their fight

To see what becomes of this life

This world is so full of shade

It stands on the edge of a blade

The light & the dark

Continue to fight

To see what becomes of this charade

The end of the day is near

As the light slowly dims

The memories of the daylight

Will never leave us

Light winning over darkness

I smile a grimace of pessimism

Blinking as the downpour graces my façade

Inside my heart beats with regret

My hollow orbs sink to a new depth

I savour the moment in the pitch

Darkness consumes me whole

The night and darkness descends

But look up into the sky

The light shines through

The holes in Heaven’s floor

Light winning over darkness

As the sun returns to haunt my world

I hide; hooded & cloaked

I no longer belong in this creation

Withdrawing to the gloom I tremble

Eagerly awaiting the return of shadowy bliss

Awaiting darkness to consume me whole

A fine write by you both. Erm. surely not - the last line? It would mean darkness had won!

    • Goldfinch60

The battle is yet to be determined, I am on the side of light.

    • Michael Edwards

Light will overcome - fine write - kudos to both.

      • Goldfinch60

Thank you Michael, Hood may think differently.

      • Scrambled Letters

I liked the contrasts, there will always be a struggle between the two.

        • Goldfinch60

Thank you SL, yes it will always be there.

        • Hood.

This is one co-write that really works with the separate views of light & dark. I wasn’t sure if our writing styles would blend but egotistically I believe it does.

Really enjoyed working with you on this piece.

          Awesome piece! lol!

          • Goldfinch60

I too enjoyed working together, I too believe it worked very well and shows very much that opposites attract.

It was my absolute pleasure to work with you.

            Goldi and Hood...

            “Light winning over darkness”...
“Awaiting darkness to consume me whole”...

The struggle will continue beyond our existence! Some will always see the light. Some will always see the darkness...And some will struggle between both as one of my favorite lines states...
“...It stands on the edge of a blade...”

A great collaborative endeavor!! A round of applause to both of you! Awesome pic! Visually appealing! Bravo!
Enjoyed the read very much! Thank you!

            • Hood.

Thanks for the supportive comment. GF can take full credit for the great image. I had no idea he was going to add one but so pleased he did.

                Yes, I really like it!

              • Fay Slimm

A really good co-write on the light-dark difference - well done you two.

              • FredPeyer

                And the battle goes on...
Goldie & Hood, who would have thought! But hey, it really, really worked. Kudos to both of you!
