(c) 2018 Edward York
Happiness is so elusive,
It often seems to hide.
We try so hard to find it,
But we fail to look inside.
You won't find it in money,
Or shiny brand new things.
No drink or drug will help you,
Nor the deadening that it brings.
A big house won't make you happy,
A new car will soon get old.
Your heart can still feel empty,
While you sit and count your gold.
New things won't bring you comfort,
And trips will end too fast.
Gifts may bring excitement,
But that feeling just won't last.
Money may ease your burdens;
Fame may bring you pride,
But neither is a replacement,
For who is standing by your side.
