Platform four at the train station
Hope and regret mingling with
Adventure and acceptance
Sadness and happiness
Love and hate
Permeating the platform
Hovering unseen
In the air like perfumes
Of feelings and emotions
The mascara streaked face
Of the young woman
Holding back the tears
Clutching her suitcase
Trying to look nonchalante
Running away from
A broken relationship
The young college student
Barely able to contain
The excitement of finally
Being on his own
Away from the restraints
Of parents and family
To be free
The bent over back
Of the old man holding
The urn with the ashes
Of his departed wife
To be scattered according
To her last wishes
At her birth place
The young girl
Holding on to the hand
Of her forlorn looking dad
Sad, yet happy
To travel back to
Her divorced mother
Every other week
Platform four
A snapshot of humanity
Of life’s successes and disappointments
Of wins and losses
Of relationships and solitude
Only visible to the
Eye of a keen observer

one of your best, Fred. the escape when boarding platform four is astounding. good write.
Thank you Kevin. A train station is an incredible place to let your imagination go wild!
A well portrayed snapshot of the human experience this is, Fred. I was right there on the platform with them. Kudos!
Thanks Louis, the human condition is what gives us so much to write about!
Your words vividly portrayed the varied reasons why that platform held all the emotions Fred - - a really fine piece of observation which goes into my faves.
Thank you Fay, both for liking it and making it a favorite!
Great observational piece Fred - made me think up the title 'View From A Coffee Shop' - but you've already done it - I enjoyed the read.
Thanks Michael, I like that title 'View from a coffee shop' and I think you should write a poem with that title! Glad you enjoyed my poem.
What can I say that others have not already said? And these observations go on and on every single day. Very observant and a great poem Fred.
Thanks so much AP! You are right, every day is different. All we have to do is observe and imagine!
Very good write, people watching is a great way to write, I do it quite a lot.
Thanks Goldfinch! We need to be observant, otherwise there would not be too much to write about.
What a striking snapshot, this is a very good poem.
Thank you Aislinn! I checked out your work and am mightily impressed!
