I just do not understand it,
Why is it that I can write these words?
They just seem to pour out of me,
Not like a dripping tap,
But like a torrent rushing to the sea.
They could be words on any subject,
The list is endless,
But from where do they come?
Everyday there are more words,
They are inexhaustible,
Or seem to be.
I know when the words started,
They were started when I saw
An unfinished painting,
I just had to write about it,
Write about it in verse.
It was like removing a boulder
Which let the torrent out,
This torrent of words.
Still I do not understand,
Do not understand why all these words
Get written on the page,
And are so important,
So important in my life.

- Comment from author about the poem: If somebody had told me ten years ago that I would write poetry I would have laughed at them. Last year I wrote 447 poems!

Great write Andy - but I have the opposite problem - I have the ideas but spend ages searching for the right words to express them. I am constantly searching the rhyming dictionary and the thesaurus - drives my wife mad I'm sure.
I can understand that Michael, but somehow to me the words just come, I don't know why that is.
Good write Gold. I did reach 1,000 poems recently! Not all published yet, and taking more than a year to write them all.
Sometimes nothing one day for me; then maybe on, two, or three together.
Well done Orchi, I passed 1,000 in August 2016 and I, like you are still writing.
Writing works better than a good cry.
Sometimes, writing releases different tensions.
writing can feel so therapeutic sometimes ! 🙂 perhaps that is why you write so much lol , there is something so lovely about being able to write and being able to write on anything you want ! something inspired you and it was that unfinished painting . you know wow over 400 poems in one year, thats truly amazing! i enjoyed reading this ....you just love to write so just write away 🙂
Thank you yellowrose, yes writing is therapeutic.
Great write. When I was a kid and some would suggest that I started writing to deal with my emotions. I laughed and went on. Then when I was a teenager and had my first crush I wrote my first poem. I haven't stopped writing since.
P.s. my crush tore up the poem and had her brother beat me up
It is very strange how writing starts, as I said in the poem my started by seeing and unfinished work of art that my daughter was creating, it just caused so much emotion within me that I had to put some words on paper.
Thank you Tony.
