The Gents and Me

Lorna

The way the day really starts

After waking, washing, eating

All that stuff

Is at the train station

Where I park the car facing east

And watch the gulls

Soaring on the golden sea

Of the rising sun

Garbage pickers all, but gentlemen

Who wink at me.
