I sat on a rock contemplating
My life and why I am here
But all I got was a cold bum
And a craving for a beer
Thinking deep thoughts
Has never been easy
Mostly what I get is
Sleazy, queasy, or cheesy
We should never give up
Exercising our brain
We have nothing to lose
But everything to gain
I wonder how it would feel
To be totally nude
Inside a tank
In utter solitude
Without the noise of life
What would I find
Would I see everything
Or simply be blind?
I’m more complicated
Than I ever thought
Full of ideas and things
I was never taught
They have to come from
Somewhere inside
I’m still looking where
They could actually hide
It can’t be that I
Was put on this earth
Just by the fact
Of a simple birth
Oh, no, there has
To be a lot more
Some special reason
A mind to fly and soar
I did get the beer and
My bum is still cold
Maybe I’m wrong
I’m just getting old

Not easy to exercise your brain when your bum is cold - mind you it depends where your brains are lol - love this excellent write Fred.
Thanks Michael, you are so right. When I was young, my brains were down in my pants. But I think they repatriated upwards again now.
I had to laugh at this - brains travelling from pants to head - the term 'dick head' came to mind - do you use the term over there? By the way no disrespect meant but I guess you know that.
I guess the expression exists, but have not heard it lately. And btw, you don't have to worry about any 'disrespect'. Firstly you are too much of a gentleman, and secondly, I do have a thick skin, make fun about myself, actually enjoy it, and don't worry about the little things! 🙂
Thanks so much Angel! The word 'amazing' is debatable! But my wife told me that I am actually not as bad as everybody else says I am! So there you go!
the cold bum distracted you momentarily from the deep thinking and your reflection lol nice piece of writing which i enjoyed reading
Thanks so much yellowrose! At my age, a cold bum is more than a distraction, it is a major calamity!
Very good write, sometime it is worth clearing your mind and wallow in its emptiness. I can sometimes do this and feel more relaxed having done so.
Thank you goldie! We do need that relaxation once in a while!
A fine write Fred. Nothing much worse than a cold bum! lol. I stand sometimes, while waiting for a bus or train. The waiting room seats/shelters cause me to jump up again, if too cold!
Thanks orchie! Yes, there is nothing worse than to sit down on a metal bench in winter-time. Well, maybe there is. It's putting your tongue on a metal pole in freezing weather!
The tongue will get stuck to the metal pole. Careful nothing else gets stuck to it!
That botty warmed up now?!
Yep, had a good nights sleep, am waiting for the sun to get up and another warm and happy Hawaiian day! I just wanted to rub it in a little!!! 🙂 I still remember the night I spent near the Scottish border in a farm house heated only by the fire place. I was sweating in front and freezing in the back. No hot shower in the morning either! And there was snow on the ground. Cold, humid, awful! Oh, and twice I drove on the wrong side of the street. Dangerous country, your England!
Sounds to me like the process of spiritual awakening going on, Fred. My condolences and congratulations, my friend. Great write here!
Well, thank you so much, my dear Louis! I guess the condolences are for getting old and the congratulations for still kicking! We are into some very very heavy duty thinking here, have to hold my head cocked to one side so the few brain cells I have left are all in one place!
Thanks, tepo! These two stanzas must have reminded you of scuba diving! I never dived, but I can imagine that it must be awesome!
A fine poem Fred a fun one also , I don’t know what you’ve done in your life but I think you would have made a fine teacher !
A great humorous piece, detailing contemplations we've all had some time or another, haven't we? Definitely a brilliant write.
