A QUORUM OF QUINZANES

Michael Edwards

A QUORUM OF QUINZANES

She opens her aching heart

Does it still bear scars?

Will they heal?

The light is still on inside

Is it occupied?

Is he there?

He speaks with a quiet voice

Will she hear his words?

Will she smile?

The match flared with a blue flame

Was the tinder dry?

Will it burn?

The fire in her heart was strong.

Is it still burning?

Is it quenched?

  • Comment from author about the poem: A quinzane – an unrhymed verse of 15 syllables distributed over three lines so that there are seven syllables in the first line, five in the second line and three in the third line (7/5/3). The first line makes a statement. The next two lines ask a question relating to that statement.

Good write and profound questions Michael.

Thanks Andy - not sure if I'm a lover of this form but enjoyed the challenge of writing them nonetheless.

Good quin-wotsits Michael. Second one - Erm, yes, the lights are on in the house, but is anyone home? Could apply to house, or to the 'house' of people themselves! lol

      • Michael Edwards

The lights are on in my house - and I get told off for leaving them on but when my wife leaves them on it's a different matter as there is always a reason - I think I'm missing something.

Like all forms not as easy as it looks - pleased you liked them Fay.

Michael, you mastered the form perfectly! And to top it off, all five quinzanes make sense!
But why are there only three geese to go with five quinzanes? 🙂

The other two flew off - thanks Fred - great to write something that makes sense .
