I can write!

FredPeyer

Sitting here looking past the computer at the wall

With no inspiration, no idea, no input at all

Trying hard to let the fingers do the talking

Maybe I should refresh the mind, do some walking

They say that absence makes the heart grow fonder

Where is my muse, what happened to her, I ponder

Hope she will be back soon to help me out

To overcome this terrible writing drought

Being a writer without thought or inspiration

Is like being a silent witness at my own cremation

Watching my dreams flow out the exhaust

No more writing or poems, all is lost

But wait, open your eyes and check this out

What I just wrote is a poem without a doubt

My day just turned from dark to light

I’m back in business, I can write!

  • Comment from author about the poem: Am still struggling with a writing dry-spell. This is all I could come up with. Not too good, but at least it rhymes! Talked to my muse on the phone. She is taking a vacation. Apparently I am kind of a hard case for her and she says she needs the time off to recharge HER batteries! I can see her point. My wife told me the same thing, so I guess it is ME, and not the others! :-)

I need to recharge - yes I've heard that as well - it's a bit like all the other meaningless (in my mind at least) phrases like: I need to switch off, I need space, I need some air, I need a break etcetera. I can see a poem - see even thinking about someone else's poem can inspire so all is not lost. I'm tired and I'm rambling and I need some shut eye. Well this poem turned out nice Fred - keep writing my friend.

Thanks Michael, you are right, a lot of these phrases are just an excuse for not facing reality, or from having to say I am tired of your company, for example. And yes, I will keep on writing, regardless of what happens with my muse!

You have no writing drought Fred by the construction of such inspiring rhyming.First class read.

Thank you Fay, you are so kind!

Maybe you need some down time too Fred. When your lyrical wheels start turning again, we'll be hearing from you. No pressure, just enjoy your time. And it is a rather great write in itself.

Thank you AP, am pretty busy right now, so that doesn't help either.

What a great two lines, Fred....

"being a silent witness at my own cremation

Watching my dreams flow out the exhaust"

          Kurt

...and you caught the ONLY two good lines!!! Thanks, Kurt! I first wanted to use 'stack' or 'chimney', but that would not have rhymed. 🙂

It happens sometimes and then the muse just takes over without you knowing. Good write Fred.

Thanks Goldie, you are so right, sometimes we don't know where the words come from, so it gotta be the muse.

Yep, and there it is - another fine poem! Yes, phrases people use when I sing: 'I'll get your coat, shall I?' 'Don't overstay your welcome', etc. All meaning - Clear off With that caterwauling! heehee.
