ORIGINS OF EXPRESSIONS !

BRIAN & ANGELA

YOUNG JUDGE ~ BIG WIG ~ MORE AUTHORITY ?

BIGWIGS  are people of importance

Not coverings for those who've lost their hair

A colloquial term for "Persons of Authority"

JUDGES & BARRISTERS who this affection share !

The Law is an Ass ~ and their judgement won't budge

The BIGGER the WIG ~ The BETTER the JUDGE !

HALCYON DAYS is Sicilian Folk Law

In GREEK the word means A Kingfisher

She lays her eggs upon the sea ~ The prayed

For calm ~ so the waves don't dish 'er !

So HALCYON DAYS will cause no alarm

They are days of Peace ~ Tranquility ~ Calm !

A HAT TRICK is a performance of THREE

Deriving from the Noble Art of CRICKET

If you bowled three Men ~ in consecutive balls

You have performed a HAT TRICKET !

And much more than that ~ Back in the .......

Pavillion you're given A HAT !

PARAPHERNALIA ~ refers to the GOODS

A Man would bestow on his New Wedded Wife

It was things apart from the DOWRY

Things she'd inherit for LIFE

From the GREEK ~ PARA (besides) FERNE (dowry) ~ so

The WIFE has much more on show !
