Wedding Wonderful - Valentines

Tune: Quebec

('Jesu, thou joy of loving hearts')

Psalm 45 v.13-17

********

Here royal wedding, king's daughter

The groom does love her, and sought her

To be his bride, his wife for e'er

Come to the feast and in it share

She be all glorious within

Her clothes woven with gold therein

She shall be brought unto the groom

Celebrating, for all there [is] room

She shall wear robes, colours many

Raiment of needlework it be

The women her companions

Bridesmaids they be, they fine fair ones

With gladness and rejoicing they

Come to the bride, and for her pray

They shall enter the king's palace

Wondrous, beauteous sign is this

Instead of your fathers shall be

Children, a generation, see

Them you may make to be princes

In all the earth, with full graces

I will make you name sure to be

Not forgotten, recalled, holy

Remembered through all time, all fare

So shall the people praise you e'er

  • Comment from author about the poem: A hymn-poem in 8888 Long Metre (LM). The groom is the King. The bride is referred to as the king's daughter. But the king is not marrying his own daughter! An oldie again - hymn in the clip dates from about 1150.

You should see my night time raiment - or perhaps not - I have got one set though just in case I end up in hospital.

Thanks Michael. That raiment will make me swoon - if people are not wearing it! oohh.

Thanks STEVE for a lovely Medieval Hymn and the words to sing along with. Love the Poem ~ reminded me of "The Marriage Wedding of the Lamb (Jesus) and His Bride the CHURCH ~ Weddings are always wonderful ~ AMEN ~ Yours BRIAN

Thanks Brian. I met Bernie (Bernard) in person! Doubt he would like being called Bernie though, as he seemed gruff, and a 'severe moralist' as one writer says of him.

Sounds like one heck of a wedding, orchie! I bet you would swoon if you were there!
