A WOMAN OF DIGNITY

Michael Edwards

A WOMAN OF DIGNITY

In robe of faille and cashmere shawl

with tilted nose and burning blush

she bore no signs of beggary.

A woman of commanding charm

displaying no ingenuousness

conserving all her dignity.

She never feasted on the bread

of melancholy truths upheld

nor lost-illusions make believe.

Equipped with strength of character

the forces of her temperament

placed bridled hold on love’s desires.

A woman of dignity has surely dignified the words written.

A dignified write and pic there Michael. Would she make me swoon? Or is she too dignified for that?! lol.

Beautifully written, Michael. But she does sound a little bit stuck up. Or maybe that is just her British side? 🙂

    • Michael Edwards

Yes a bit stuck up but us Brits are a bit reserved. I think it's changing though with outside influences - not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing. All down to culture changes - ah I see a haiku there - I'll post it tomorrow.

That's a lady that is. You can spot 'em... it's the way they eat cake.

      • Michael Edwards

Ha ha - I'll watch out for that - could be the way they use a Waitrose bag when shopping at Aldi.

You've got total command over this poem Michael! She would have been the example my mother held up to show me how to be - and I could never manage........ oh well. Always love your paintings.......

        • Michael Edwards

Thanks Lorna - a real strong lady - so pleased you like my artwork.

          It's the Co-op for me - no toffee-noses there!

          • Michael Edwards

I get my petrol from a Co-op garage - tastes awful!!

The color in the paint is so lovely and the lady in the poem is just right.

Cheers m&m - thanks for your kind words.

A great write with a beautiful painting, Michael!
As I was reading it, it reminded me of Monica Bellucci in the film “Malena” when she walked through town with her head held up high! Enjoyed the read very much!

Don't know the film but I'll look it up, the painting is of my local town which is only 3 miles from my village

The painting does remind me of a section in my hometown in the Campania region (Italy) where I was born!

My wife and I love Italy and have travelled all over except the North west which is on our list. Love Compania having visited all the usual places - just lovely. Our last visit was a tour of Sicily.

Beautiful painting and I just loved "woman of dignity" you did such a great job describing in your poem.

Aw thank you Christina - you are so kind.

The strength within this Lady oozes from your tribute to dignity Michael - so much to aim for when that time arrives for us all.
