The Painting of Love

Goldfinch60

Her life was rising,

Rising from the depths,

The depths of despair,

Into a new world,

A world of love and beauty,

That love had returned.

The brush touched the canvas,

Her love of painting was back,

Back from the grave,

That had been dug in her past.

Now resurrected into the light

The brush flowed,

And beauty shone on the canvas,

Shone with the love in her life.

The love of family,

That love nearly lost,

But now stronger than ever.

She stood in front of the canvas

Painting her new life,

In colours of her dreams

Now newly freed from her hell.

  • Comment from author about the poem: This is for my daughter who has just come out of an awful relationship and is coming through it by going back into the love of her life - her painting. When she told me that she had started painting again I was almost in tears, I have been encouraging her to go back to her art for a very, very long time. The picture is the one she did as her degree piece at University in 1986 and I think that it is relevant in the current situation as the piece is called "Breaking Free" (It was twelve feet by four feet but we have a miniature of it on our sitting room wall of four feet by two and a half feet).

A lovely write and fine pic Gold.
But as for me - that looks a bit like the ball and chain KP put on my leg. There's no hope for me though. How will I ever break free? I should have known, with the wedding being on Halloween! I did not see the bad omen. heehee.

    • Goldfinch60

Thanks Orchi. To break free you need the strength that comes from a good Scotch such as Laphroaig but without water in it.

Ohhh a Scotch without water will give me the strength to break the chain! heehee. I shall go mad, and chuck the water away!

I am so pleased to learn that she is on the road again and I just love her painting - will you be able to publish more over time? And I do like the poem which is written with such sensitivity.

        • Goldfinch60

Thank you Michael, yes I will be able to put more of her work up, our walls are covered with her art. she has painted murals in pubs and and hospitals and in peoples houses. She is responsible for allowing me to look at art in a more profound way. i have always like art but she has pushed my boundaries into areas I would not consider.

          • Michael Edwards

I look forward to seeing them

I admire the painting and love the poem. My daughter went through some hard times way back (she is now happily married and just had her first baby) and during that time took up painting at the local community college while waiting to get into University of Hawaii. Her first two paintings won a school competition. During that time she painted a lot, but when life got better, the painting stopped. Right now there is no time. I am so glad that your daughter is painting again. The poem is beautifully sensitive and full of love and hope!

Thank you Fred, I hope that her corner has now been turned and her life will be more relaxed.

                        Gold,
A fine poem...and your daughter’s painting is extraordinary! So talented! All the best to her! Maybe you and she can collaborate on a book of poetry. You write and she’ll illustrate!
