Tune: Southwell
('Lord Jesus, think on me')
********
Amidst the dark and glooms
A single flower blooms
Then more do follow, Spring's advent
God has His seasons sent
Ground hard, fallow, shall bear
In due time with God's care
Shall bear again, too with man's toil
Fresh sproutings from the soil
Colour of grace is green
The grass it can be seen
And trees their leaves produce again
Though some be evergreen
You Lord give life to all
You hear who on you call
You Lord of heaven and earth for e'er
With us your blessings share
If we abide in you
Your words bide in us true
So shall your promise you fulfil
We shall bear good fruit still
Hope springs as buds do flower
Your Holy Spirit shower
Upon us, fill us with your power
To love, serve you each hour
Away, the dark of night
Nor here in sin delight
Cultivated garden your heart
Glorifies God, each part
Through rain, cold, sun, wind, snow
We can still your plans know
You true the perfect husbandman
Who lifts the fruitful ban

Let's hope it's springing now anyway! Though plants break through even when wintry. A poem composed, seeing the first flower bloom on some indoor plants, and in looking out the window into the back garden.
So true, Orchi...
“Amidst the dark and glooms
A single flower blooms...”
A beautiful message!
Thank you for sharing!
~Laura~
Thanks Laura. That's what actually happened to one of our pot plants. There's two flowers now so far!
Thanks STEVE ~ Love the repentent melancholy of the Word & Tune ~ more meaningful than much that is HAPPY~CLAPPY (am I showing my age ?) Love the POEM about the inevitability of SPRING (one of God's promises !) and also of a Spiritual Springtime in our HEARTS ~ AMEN Yours BRIAN
Thanks Brian. happy-clappy was one of my pet-hates! I'm not to think that way, even though there are aspects of it I still don't get on with very well. But then - they might say I am a 'fuddy-duddy'! I mean, we can't live for ever in the past, the 5th Century in this case!
Good write Orchi, it is certainly springing now.
Thanks Gold - hope so!
A good word and tune of hope Steve -- to find a single flower in bloom here is a cause for rejoicing . Let us see real Spring soon and meanwhile give thanks we can have warm hearths.
Thanks Fay. Me ole gladiolis are sprouting again - or some of them are!
