When the Pine Fell

Lorna

The chipped dust of the old pine

Fell like snow on the roof

Fell like the tree it had been

Only tiny, scattered

Settling like tears

For the lost beauty of its former self

Once so mighty

Then so maimed

Then slain

Its years of rings giving themselves up

To the cycles of wax and wane

Joy and pain

Sun and rain

    Lorna,
    A fine write...but sad!
It’s like us...eventually we’ll be cut down too! I bet it had more rings than I ever will!
I’m guessing that’s what’s left of your pine tree!

Yes! And as they cut at the front of the house, I saw "snow" falling at the back of the house until I realized what it was! Bought a new trees yesterday so life continues........

Reminds me of a line in one of one of my poems about a tree: In death it's age disclosed. Love this verse and now I can see the problem - quite a tree from the photo Lorna.

Not my tree Michael but it was that big! They cut it down so fast I had to time to take pictures... it was gone and chipped in 3 hours!

That's "no time" not to time........... silly me.......

I've often wondered if trees only had a voice. And here they do in you Lorna. Thank you for sharing.

Oh but they do AP! They're singing out there!

Maybe they even write poetry between themselves of the hurt us Humans inflict upon them.

I agree - I must be a pagan because I'm a tree hugger from way back.......

                  • marlenawood

I'm sure your a pagan you would be surprised of how many people are not nature enough

Very good write Lorna and so sad, the picture itself is so emotive.
