Simple Words

lasergraph

(c) 2018 Edward York

The beach was so romantic,

I thought the perfect place to be.

That's why I grabbed you by the hand,

To take you there with me.

I had thoughts I wanted to tell you,

I worked and thought and planned.

I scribbled out my message,

etched deep into the sand.

I took great care to write them,

The words I wanted to say,

But before you got to see them,

The tide washed them all away.

I thought about how fragile,

How easily words get tossed.

And as the sun kissed the horizon,

The entire day seemed lost.

Poetic words can be heartfelt,

And even make you feel blessed.

Sometimes just keep it simple,

An "I love you" says it best.

What a sweet poem! I really enjoyed the rhythm and rhyming of it. They were spot on.

I like to keep most things simple, or maybe I am just lazy.

        • Accidental Poet

No, people choose to be lazy. Being simple is efficiency of efforts. ; )

Very good write Edward, words can be so fragile that it is always best to keep it simple.

In the advertising / graphics world we call it the KISS process (Keep it simple stupid) I think poetry lets you say the most with the fewest words.

            Laser,
I enjoyed this write very much!
It is a gift to be able to say a lot with a minimal amount of words! You accomplished what you set out to do! Bravo!

Ideally, I would’ve etched such a message in the sand. However, in order not to lose the moment, we have to seize it! We do have to make a choice!

Sometimes I wish I could etch the words somewhere. When I was a young man, older teen perhaps, I wrote a lot of poems with pen on paper. Over time they were all lost. I don't know how relevant any of them were to today, but they seemed important at the time. They are now gone and lost forever.

                I’m sorry about that!
However, you’re certainly making up for the lost ones! I sincerely enjoy all the ones you’re sharing with us on MPS! Super writes!
