Tune: St Leonards
('May the mind of Christ my Saviour')
1 Peter 1 v.21-25
**********
Christian,s their state, is born again
They are stranger among men
For they of the Spirit born are
Sojourners afar
Afar from their heavenly homeland
Yet guided by God's good hand
Born of seed incorruptible
Through God [made] possible
Born of that seed by God's word sure
It lives, abides, evermore
But mankind is temporary
Shall not lasting be
For all the people are like grass
Winds blow over, soon they pass
And their glory as like flowers
Shed in winter's hours

- Comment from author about the poem: A hymn-poem in 8.7.8.5. The phrase 'born-again' may be chirped out here and there, almost as a cliché. It means not being born again physically (not reincarnation, etc) but our spirit being 'reborn', 'coming to life', a 'being born spiritually' or 'born from above' as some Bible versions put it.

There is the book 'Pilgrim's Progress' with most Bible verses included in italics. I found out 435 references in it!
THANKS STEVE for another MONDAY uplift ! "May the Mind of Christ my Saviour ~ Fill my life from day today" is my daily morning prayer ! Easy on a Sunday when I gather with the Saints for Worship & Prayer ~ more difficult at work on MONDAY ! Pilgrims Progress is an OPUS MAGNUM and it has been a Blessing since the day it was written ! Love your Poem as well ! I move in Evangelical Circles so BORN AGAIN (term Jesus used !) is common parlance in our Services. Thanks again for an uplifting poem ~ Yours BRIAN
Well, we've all heard of 'born yesterday' as in 'I wasn't born yesterday', but that's not the same thing! Peter does actually say 'born again' so it's not some hyped-up spiritual phase. Ohh a bit of Latin too - Opus Magnus. I shall earn it, being uncultured! lol
And yet - it occurred to me one day, to start a life we need to be born! Though of course we have life while in the womb. It's not rocket science to realise this, but we may forget it in the spiritual realm. How are some then, if they are in church and have not been 'born' spiritually? It's like: 'Just because an item is in the garage, it don't mean it's a car!'
I absolutely love the last stanza Orchee.........
Thanks Lorna.
