Aren't there days
When you wake
And imagine
The black flower of Death
Its petals and curls
Unlike other flowers
Have the power
To put us to rest
Its beautiful blanket of night
Will cover
The worst and the best
With its soothing perfume
Of rich heath and
Its mattress of the earth

A super read which I must save. A bit frustrated as I can't name the flower - it has the characteristics of a lily but only has 5 petals and not six - must do a search.
Hi Michael - silly that I didn't record the name - but I think I've found it: https://toptropicals.com/catalog/uid/Lisianthius_nigrescens.htm - although I can't find the same picture again.......... Thanks for your nice comment as always.....
Ah a Mexican plant that isn't hardy here in the UK which is why it struck no bells - thanks Lorna.
First class writing Lorna - the picture and number adorn the words which flow with poetic expressions of facing the one place everyone's fated for. A great read and this one goes to my favourites.
Thank you Fay. I found the music and there's such a heartbreaking/warming story behind it. Joey and Rori were married, country singers - he wrote the songs, she sang. They took a year to chronicle their lives (not my thing) - but during that time she faced terminal cancer and so he wrote and they recorded songs while she knew she was dying. This could go wrong and be saccharin - but in their case it is so heartwrenching I almost couldn't listen. They have so many other songs and she is just lovely to watch as she sings - I put this version on because I couldn't catch all the lyrics and they are rather lovely I think.......
Just really like this! My first time read of your work. Will remember
to stop again!
Hello! How nice of you - thanks!
A fine write Lorna.
Thank you Orchee........... black flowers but no black masses...........
Heavens no! I don't even call non-black masses, erm, 'Masses'!
Superb write Lorna. The flower is found in Mexico and called "The Flower of Death" Lisianthius nigrescens var. chiapensis
They do seem to have a death culture in Mexico.....Cinco de Mayo is very creepy!
Lorna,
A great write and the song you picked to accentuate the poem is perfect! I remember the story of the great duo Joey and Rory! That was a sad one!
~Laura~

Besides you 😉, my mother missed me the most! I’m with her...catching up!
